Hi all, I have a 6309 7040 full of AM parts that I'm thinking of modding and I spotted this dial and hand set on a watch for sale on eBay (UK seller). I asked the seller if he'd kindly reveal his source but no go unfortunately. Had anyone seen it advertised anywhere? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

I think it's a genuine Loy.

Ah, that sounds possible. I think I've seen a very similar dial on one of those reversed watches he does.

Yeah, I've gotta say that I'm a bit bummed out that what I thought might be an unusual mod would just make my watch look like the product of Loys chop shop.

Loaded question. So let me answer yes and no. It serves a purpose and takes a beating when there is a chance I would injure an original.

Yeah, I've gotta say that I'm a bit bummed out that what I thought might be an unusual mod would just make my watch look like the product of Loys chop shop. It's some of his better work and doesn't look dreadful.

Loy obviously has access to someone who can do decent dial printing and chapter rings. I don't know why he would be using those 15 year old style inserts that Ramon has when he could get his people to make some much better ones unless I bought a cargo container full of those for pennies on the dollar and has to use them up.

Roughly equivalent to an Impala after they downsized it and made it really crappy. Here's another. VT with FUGLY rims. This one is in my city, you can't miss it because it's so ugly.

Nice wheels Adrian. Which one's yours? :-) Now to be clear, i have nice original 6306 7001, 7548 7010 and 7549 7010s so the AM filled 7040 is sort of surplus to requirements. It's got some good points (Yobokies bezel insert and domed AR sapphire) but also some bad points (crappy AM dial and hands, slightly worn chapter ring, cracked crystal retainer, weirdly salt dimpled case for which most of the brushing is no longer visible). There's little prospect of returning it to stock for a reasonable price so I can either flip it, mod it, or just retain it as a beater (but that's what the 7548 was purchased for). So many of the mod dials I see are bland so the idea would be to create something with a striking look - but not something that, in hindsight, looks like the product of a Philippines puppy mill.

I've always thought Jake's British green 704x style dial with citizen/paddle style hands from Harold would be a classy combo. The hour paddle kind of mimics the 12' 704x marker. I've debated on this combo for my tst for quite some time.

An aftermarket Scubapro dial or a blue dial, the choice is large. I' ve got this black 6309 dial too

Ha ha. In the intervening two years (almost) I've sold that watch. Thanks though gibsg.
