Anybody wanna geek out with me?
What did you think?
I thought it was great, but un-original in story. I am happy that it felt very "Star Wars", but also thought the story was more of a re-do (young jedi, not knowing/learning powers, stumbling across a very important droid, unknown parents, death star (Starkiller) destroying planets, x-wings blowing up the Starkiller, Han and Chewy taking out a shield). See my point.
Anyway I loved it but left feeling oddly disappointed.
On to Batman V Superman now....

Probably won't get too many participants, until folks have actually seen the movie... . I'll be back after I check it out.

I will contribute to this thread after I see it. refuse to get caught up in the "have to see it opening weekend" stuff. i guess I am a purist of sorts, I have only seen the original trilogy, and I'm hoping to feel as wowed as I was in1977. Might be a bit of a stretch, since I won't be ten years old, but I'll give it my best shot.

Rob I'm with you on that, I had no interest in seeing the prequels. They really were so bad. When I heard that Lucas had sold to Disney it was great news. Lucas was so weird about continuing the saga - like he wanted to just be begged to do it but not actually put the work into doing it. Dis will continue the saga forever, assuming it keeps generating billions in $. The director for Epsiode VIII and IX is Rian Johnson who I like a lot (I'm kinda over JJ Abrams although he is great to). And the fact that Electronic Arts has been licensed by Disney to do the video games was music to my ears, as Lucas Arts (the vidoe game division of Lucas Films) was painfully bad at making video games.

I saw it on the weekend with my brother (a huge fan), my niece and a few of our mates who all grew up with Star Wars. General consensus was that it's highly derivative - especially of A New Hope - but brings back the look and feel of the original trilogy. Plenty of humour and in jokes. It looked awesome and was far and away better than any of the prequels. As a mate put it 'thank you JJ Abrams for making me feel like a nine year old again.'

Appreciate but not an avid follower of Star Wars. Like Nixon watches. Love the Star Wars collection.

The two people that I have talked to say that it doesn't live up to the hype.

I enjoyed it. The space battle scenes were excellent. I liked the use of a strong female lead. The story is a bit of meh, though. Tough because there's a lot of competition these days in science fiction/fantasy.

What did you think? Anyway I loved it but left feeling oddly disappointed. I agree with you 100%. Really liked it, but was slightly disappointed in the end. Here is what I thought was fantastic!! 1. Using the original actors to help carry and perpetuate the story line. Especially when explaining to the younger ones that all the myths they had heard were true. 2. The fact the three main younger characters are relatively unknown. The are not huge blockbuster actors/actress in their own right (at least in the U.S.). If the had chosen some like (can't remember real name) Katniss from Hunger Games that would have been it for me, wouldn't have even gone. 3. Theme and feel: Spot on with my view of Star Wars. Bleh...had the feeling (and I am sure most of you will agree) of replay, been there....

My 2 cents. Derelict imperial hulks in the desert...awesome! Daisy Ridley...Hot! Wish I was 9 again so I could just be amazed, without digging to deep into the plot.

I saw it opening weekend in 3d and the 6;20 pm show the theater was half empty. The first thing my seven year old said was that was awesome and I tend to agree with him.

I saw the first 4 that were released on opening nights (1977, 1980, 1983 and 1999). After that, decided sleep (among other *cough* activities *cough*) was more important.
