Just a friendly reminder that if you haven't backed up your phone recently, Christmas is a good time to backup. I'm sure many of you are much more calculating than me, I have had no reason to plug my phone into the comp for 12 months.... And then Let's just say my 4 year old daughter was and is fine, phones don't like pool water. It's nice to know that there is an instinct to protect that drives harder than reason.
If you use your phone for cataloging and selling, don't put off backing up.
text messages hold a lot of searchable info that are not held on iCloud servers unless it's your primary backup. I hope you never find yourself in a position where your grateful for this info. Cam

I don't do it as often as I should, but fairly regularly.

Sorry to hear the phone didn't come back to life, but the important thing is your little girl is ok. I back up my phone every month or so. Not so much for the other data but for the pics of my kids. What I'd like is if Apple allowed you to iCloud only photos stored in a 'backup' folder. That way I could just upload the import stuff without having to fill up space with endless wrist shots :-)

I too should probably do this more often.. however i've always been one to have a waterproof "Lifeproof" case on my iPhones..
Then again i don't have kids, and i'm extremely careful with my stuff. Onto my 3rd iPhone (currently a 6) and have not ever damaged one. I've had to swap the 4 and the 5 but that was hardware faults, not my own doing..

Prior to iOS 7? you had to plug in your phone to update so you accidentally backed up. Since you no longer need a pc/Mac anymore there is no need to plug in. For the 4 min of downtime that your phone lays plugged into the computer, it is well worth it. It may not be the pool. It may be the car roof, the throw on the ground in a drunken rage or the leaving at a jilted lovers house, car or park bench. Either way you will be glad for those 4 boring minutes that your phone wasn't in your pocket or hand.

Trying to persuade my sister to do the same with her iPhone 3GS which is just bound to die anytime soon. I was having lunch with a guy from work last week and his iPhone locked up. We couldn't get it to respond so we did a hard reset, but it never turned back on. When did you last back it up I asked? Never! Have you tried your wet phone lately camrok? Sometimes they come back to life when they dry out.

Have you tried your wet phone lately camrok? Sometimes they come back to life when they dry out. I took it to a phone guy and he took it apart. Showed me the contacts we're all corroded. Put it back together and the phone got this weird hotness about it. I don't hold any hope for it. Feel free to share my story of woe if it helps convince someone to backup their phone.

Did you try plugging it into your iTunes? Even with the 'hotness' maybe it'll connect and last long enough to back up? Sorry, I know you've probably already tried, but I can't help asking.
