I've got an incoming Grail. The Arnie 558 from original owner with booklet. Very excited. It's got a cracked shroud. I can see the plastic replacements on eBay but not sure their bang for buck. At $50 for one or $70 for 2. 1- are there any other great alternatives? 2- is there any sizing/ manufacture specs out there? I have a very skilled best friend who is a machinist but have yet to give him a project. Cam

MontecristoNo1 (wayne) sells metal shrouds for the H558. His facebook page is kintaro hatori. I prefer metal than plastic if I were to get a replacement to add weight to the watch. Coincidentally i just did a strap change this morning on my arnie and saw a part of the shroud come off. It's one side of the clip the holds the shroud. At least it'll be easy to take off Here is my arnie

I know many folks have experience with the AM shrouds, so I'm sure you'll get the feedback you're looking for.
Mike Mounce just sold a really nice Arnie on the bay, sold for around $500 I believe. I still want one, hopefully some day.

I can't find the aluminum option. That seemed to be a nice in between option- except I don't like mixing metals together. My thoughts. 1- plastic lighter cheaper and if it busts get another. 2- metal. Solid more like tuna if it's coated, it will still eventually loose it's coating and luster.

The one you have coming is cracked, but seems to be complete. Is there any value in trying to glue it, or are they just too brittle at this stage?

Cam.. lucky you mate. One sold the other week on ebay for NINE HUNDRED aus bucks. NINE HUNDRED.
My Seiko guy has one of these and it's the last one i'm trying to pry from him.. going to talk to him about it tonight and get it for well under half what the other one sold for.. because i'm a tightass and $900 is absurd.
Will keep an eye on this and keep me in the loop with what you choose shroud wise as his plastic one is also busted.

Considering its $19 to get a 3D printed one( postage is Hefty though.) it's probably not worth screwing with an old brittle one. I've come across other sports 100 plastic bezels or edges that have just crumbled when you take them off.

An aluminium shroud used to be produced by Armsaver on eBay, but his page only lists plastic ones now. You could still contact him to check if he has any Al ones still available. But personally, I think Wayne's DLC shrouds are the best option. I had an Al shroud for about a year, then sold it and picked up a DLC one. Really completes the watch if you ask me.

Damn, same seller...where did he get both of those. Mike has a great reputation, definitely adds to the sell price.
