You don't see a Glorious Citizen come up very often. Very rare version of Seiko's GS. Doesn't look terribly flash, but at Y200k with 3 days to go and 52 bids to date, it seems pretty popular. I'll be watching but not bidding.
Go for it guys.

That's the one. Looks a bit beaten up. I think that I've only seen 2 others come up over the past 5 years or so, so they are a rare beast.
I like Citizens a lot - the slightly quirky nature, and the mystery about some of the rarely seen models is appealing. However, I see the price of this based on rarity (well isn't everything we buy) rather than on merit. It should be equivalent, on merit to a GS of the same era, but I suspect it will be a multiple of that price. That said, I'd still like one.
Be the first on the forum to own one, and earn our respect!!!

Ross

That one looks beautiful! Pity we don't find as many great Citizen vintages as Seikos. I've been looking for unmolested Citizen chronographs for years, and have only found two in the past year. Seems that the supply for these has just about dried up. Most of the divers have seen much better days, as well.

Well there you go. North of 397,000 yen is what you would have paid. Over A$5,100.
Actually it was only the 2nd I've ever seen come up. The other, some years ago, had a stained blue dial if I recall.

I’ll add to this old post, as there is little other mention of these rare high grade Citizens. Another Citizen Glorious popped up on YJ, and in the longest, most drawn-out auction I’ve observed, it went for Y420,000, a goodly sum. I recall seeing another a few weeks ago, with incorrect crown and damaged dial, and it too fetched a high price. It is interesting that there is such a price gap in the high-beat 7xxx series watches between these top level GCs and the next level down, the Chronometer Officially Certified, and the Highness. This, along with the 31J Chronometer, will be a watch I’ll never own!

I really like Citizens. In fact 3 out of the last 4 watches I got from YJ were Citizens. More affordable, less competition in bidding, but what worries me is the parts availability when something goes wrong.

Resurrecting this thread to ask if anyone here snagged the lot with the Glorious in it that ended on Yahoo Japan last night (see here). I knew it was a rare model but stupidly didn't google it until after I lost the auction - I was in it at about 100000 yen. Who knows if it's running but given those cosmetics I'd assume even for parts the GC is worth several times what the whole lot ended at (and there are some very nice pieces in there otherwise, including a KS and a beautiful 7015). Really, really kicking myself .

Brian you have the knack my friend to spot the rare ones in the midst of these poorly described lots.

I didn't spot that one. I was focused on an equally uncommon piece that I had hoped others had not noticed. This is the "Leopard" diver, examples of which only crop up about once per year at best. I chased this one, but ultimately lost out. That's 0 for 2 in the past week.

While there aren't many highly sought-after vintage Citizens, the ones that are collectable are bid on fiercely within the Japanese market.

The uncommon divers, particularly the jet-movement divers and the chronomaster diver, do go for very high prices. On the non-diver front the GC, the 31j chronometer and the 4 Mega certainly are outliers.

But given the ridiculous prices they're going for, it's probably better just to go for a King Seiko or Grand Seiko.

Um, you left off a zero. It went for 400,000 JPY (About $3600).

So are these Citizens so much rarer than the "equivalent" Seikos that the selling prices are 3 times ?

What's with the Speedtimer with chrono buttons and no subdials??? That's the gorgeous 7017-6010. I have one. Flyback chrono with inner rotating bezel. A tad larger than a Pogue. Really nice. For some reason 7017s are still way way under the radar. They sell for peanuts. Maybe Brad Pitt will wear one in a movie next year like he did with the Citizen Bullhead this year and then the prices will skyrocket. Mine's a Dec 1970 Proof/Proof:
