I love this forum as its not about wrist status symbols, the members here strap what they love on their wrist regardless of the cost. So it got me thinking, what's that watch you have or had (or want) with the smallest recommended retail price (RRP) tag. I'm not talking about discounted items or bargains, I'm thinking the most you'd expect to pay for it. I'll start the ball rolling. This is The G-Shock G-9000 Mudman. Casio US have listed it at $99 RRP. It's one of the few Casio's that has a mute tone, repeat count down timer and flash alert with dual illumination. Seriously comfortable and useful. I know there are probably some cheaper or more impressive gems out there. I'd love to see them. Include pics and especially a small description of what makes you proud to wear it if you can. Cam

I like it because it was cheap. Seldom wear it, though. It was a vacuum cleaner purchase-just hoovered it up.

Can't play - I've never bought a new watch! You can play ... Is there a watch you want, or is there a watch you have that's of a reasonable rrp? I was hoping to start a conversation about bang for bucks watches that can be purchased over the counter for a reasonable price. For example there are some ecodrives that I think are incredible for their pricing, features and quality. You know me, Id buy my shoes second hand if I like the look of them. I have never paid rrp for a watch but I am proud of my mudman that costs less than my fortnightly coffee budget.

CITIZEN NY0040 (you can get them for 150-170US). Bulletproof and they hand wind. You can even get one with a full lume dial. VOSTOK Amphibia 1967 style case + Mesh bracelet (80US + post, despite being a high jewel movement, these movements are garbage but the watch itself is a lot of fun and effectively, a sub-$100 200m rated diver. The sealing system is GREAT.)

Casio DW-290....you can buy one of these brand new at Amazon for only $23.99....this is the famous (or infamous) "Mission Impossible" watch. Split time chrono, 1/100 seconds stopwatch, 200 meter water resistance, a pre-programmed calender that's good until the year 2029, 12 or 24 hour format. What's not to like?

Gotta be the SKX (in it's various versions)...perfect size, great looks, tough as nails, reasonably accurate.

This is mine, a Vostok Amphibia in the 710 case. Old tech that works well (supposedly) up to 200 meters. When you read the write-up on how the Russians engineered something to be on par with the Swiss' tech during that time (60s) it's actually quite impressive. Has a very effective sealing system, quirky crown operation and comes with a basic mass produced reliable/robust movement.
All that for US$55! There's a thriving mod community for it too...
