Note: many despise kinetic- I don't, now that elephant is addressed this is what I received from Ramon along with my fake Skx... The movement is rusted, the dial has the lume scratched off the raised markers but... the case band and bezel are decent. The glass is ok. I'd like to restore or mod it for under a reasonable sale price- although I'm not going to flip it. I guesstimate a new movement and dial from Seiko would be around $130-$150 aud. Bringing my total to about $180 plus gaskets and capacitor, I'm bordering on what it would have cost for a decent used one. I'm wondering if anyone has any suggestions and or parts laying around to keep me under budget that would restore or be a cool mod for this project.

Is there any chance you can shoe-horn one of the SKX movements in there? Otherwise I'd say it's a money pit that you'll never get your outlay back on. 😕 Could you get stuck into reluming the markers yourself - maybe in an unusual colour?

I was thinking of trolling eBay for some of those dress or sport kinetics. Some have some great dials on. And just drop the donor movement and dial with the dive case and hands. I think the dial would likely be the easy to relume than most Seiko dials. The only crazy tritto wrist worthy thought I had (and any others who don't care for capacitors) was an orient with a date pusher but then I run into crown and stem issues.

Get ANY Kinetic with a 5M movement. They should all fit. Go for one that "only runs for a few seconds when shaken" - they mostly need only the capacitor replaced by a modern cell, available for about 10 Dollars.

Aloha Cam, Good Catch Cam glad you got it. Note: I saw that one but missed out to get it. I have a semi-parts one here too. ( Bits and Pieces ) I got a .... Free Movement , no Dial and hands , Case , Bracelet yet, from a guy on ...TOF , so I have struggling to find a setup to make it run. I need big case watch's to use. I have a new one here also. I got this one just about going on .... 3 years now from our local ...Navy Exchange , Pearl Harbor here. It was in the show case and she said no one wanted to buy it so I did. The price tag was for ......$575.00 but we Veterans don't pay Tax for anything. Anyway she tells me ...since this is during the ....... ( Military Pacific RIMPAC ) .... exercise days and she said you can have it for $325.00 with box and everything with it so I took it. Then I hardly used it for a couple months then started to use it and since it has been a great watch. I love it and it wears just right for me nice and big.... . Don't mine if I can find another parts one also just to have it. Seiko SKA 371 : Seiko SKA 369 : Then I got this one from a Forum member in a trade and it needs a Bezel Insert badly to look good. But I don't like the Pepsi Inserts at all. Aloha Louis

So turns out my mod is on hold- the crown tube is busted. This is # 2 diver that arrived within a week with a busted tube. Don't know how probable a repair is from this point.

Aloha Sir,
Thanks Cam and that shows a lot and might be helpful also. I would say it is repairable also. I would try to fix it so it be usable again. It looks to have potential to be repaired. I know I would repair it. Aloha Louis

You could fit a Triplock - the parts are cheap and you've not much to lose if it doesn't work out?

Here's the details from www.cousinsuk.com but you can get these parts from other suppliers too: Tube is part number C33419, Crown is part number C8361 This crown will take a Seiko stem, you will need to get a new stem for your movement and cut it to length. To fit the tube you need to drill out the old one with a 2.7mm drill, then tap the hole with an M3 x 0.35 tap, and screw in the new tube. Here's some pics of the general idea www.thewatchsite.com/21-japanese-watch-discussion-forum/21948-fff-trip-lock-crown-mod.htmlThe crucial step is drilling the hole, it's got to be spot on! If fitted correctly the water resistance should be better than any vintage Seiko I'd think
