I picked up the Samsung Gear 2 Neo from an op shop. The condition was unknowing. No charger and the band was missing some screws. A guy I work with has one so I got him to charge it to see if it worked. And ta-daa it sprang to life. So my first impression was it felt like a toy then I had to figure out how to get it working. You need to sync it with a Samsung phone. The watch if you can call it that- doesn't run without an initial set up from a phone. I have an older Samsung galaxy S III for work and spent about two hours downloading and updating in order to get enough software to initiate the phone to pair with the watch. As for features and usefulness well I'm fairly bias. It appears to do the same thing that a lot of things that I already own currently do. Admittedly this was released in 2014 so it was probably quite reasonable at that date and time. I was interested in getting this working to use the exercise function however without a GPS it makes it awkward and I'd be just as happy to wear a fit bit to measure my heart rate considering I have to use my phone to track my ride anyway. It does hold MP3 so it may be of benefit as a stand alone gym companion with Bluetooth headphones but I'm dubious of its heart rate accuracy when moving. The reason I'm posting this is to ask- do you think their will ever be an interest in the first few rounds of smart watches. Do you think in 2026 some half coherent trend setter will be saying #insertexclamation nice smart watch?

I guess the sentence might go: "Oh, cool - how did you get that thing working again? Ooops, battery's dead."

Nope. You got it synced now, but in a couple of years time you'll have no chance. It'll be a useless piece of junk that you can't charge or even tell the time. Would any of us be obsessing about 40 year old watches if they didn't actually perform their primary function anymore? If you paid $5 you've already got too much in it 😃
