This could go here or coming in the mail not sure which (mods are free to relocate).
Like Siralan, I am starting on a repair of a 1957 Bulova ladies, manual wind 17 jewel that was giving to my mother in law by her late husband before they wed as a xmas gift.
I'm lucky that I only need a stem and crown in white which is a bit tougher to find in eBay. I found a couple, out of dozens with yellow gold crowns, and they were both in large SteamPunk style lots with 14 other movements of various makers... These lots seem to go cheap for all of them so I figure I'll buy one of these big lots and just keep the others in my spares box with so many others...These are movement only lots where cases have been scraped...
While I was the high bidder, on a lot, I reached out to the seller with a strange request. I asked if that I should be out bid because I was bidding against people that might be interested in either all of the watches or maybe they are eyeing one or two of the movements too, Only needing a specific one. That if I lose could they reach out to the winner and ask, if he wasn't interested in the Bulova's, I would buy them from him, off setting his cost on the entire lot. Well the seller didn't get back to me before the auction ended. Making sure I won I ate dinner in front of the PC and entered a pretty high bid with just under a minute to go. The other bidder bid it up a few more bucks but in the end I came away the winner! Not much more then lunch money, but I have what I need and there are a few second tier makers in the lot too like Doxa and Glycine!
I pay for the lot as soon as I win since I'm there anyway. No sooner do I pay and I get a message from the seller...He said Since you won and are only interested in the Bulovas rather then buying all of them I'll sell them to you at $1ea. plus the $3 shipping, I'll just relist what you don't want and refund your money! What? Who does that? I said I'll take the Glycine too and I just want two of the Bulovas that have the 6BO movement. He's mailing the three movements for $3 plus the $3 shipping and has already refunded my paypal the difference! Unbelievable...
Say what you will about eBay but I think in "my experience" going back to the very beginning the scale if firmly to the good experiences then bad...Just one more example.
