Epson has just announced the introduction of a new watch brand TRUME. This is a brand that will be focused on high tech analog watches. www.epson.jp/products/trume/The first model has the functions of an Astron, i.e. GPS time set, but also has a number of other features. 1/5 sec. stopwatch Altimeter Barometer Compass Way point location directions UV Index measurement Temperature Step Counter Calories Burned These watches are not cheap but considering the technology are the price level you would expect. The models will sell for around 280,000円 I guess that this may be a test bed for new technologies and to see how these are accepted by the market. The way finding feature is very useful and one that I could find handy during travel. It allows the wearer to set a current location as a way point and the watch will then indicate the direction back to there as well as a distance of up to 9.9km. While I do not think Epson required a new brand for these technologies and I would have preferred to see these under the Seiko branding it will be interesting to see how these models sell.

I like that, nice and busy! Not as keen on the H/M hands but like the red seconds. Maybe a bit out of balance with pushers/crown at 2; 3; 8; 10? Would need to see more pics, so I guess I'll go a'googling.

Solar powered I hope? I don't like the brand name, I wonder of it has any background story, or if it is just a "marketing triumph". Too close to Donald "The Doofus" Trump for my comfort! - Thomas

For those interested here are some images I grabbed from their promotional video... Epson Trume VideoBy the way, in the video they show the name is from combining "True" and "Me". I think it's still a stupid name. Looks like it has a remote too!?! You'll see if you click the Big Image links, they are not the sharpest images, but their video was only 720 dpi. - Thomas

Orient Star watches are being marketed as Epson. I suspect to create a distance from Seiko That is not strictly true, Orient Star as well as Orient are being marketed BY Seiko Epson Corporation. All of the watch marketing and sales functions (excluding JDM) of Orient Watch Co. Limited were absorbed into Seiko Epson Corporation from January 31st 2017. The JDM sales will be handled by Epson Sales Japan Corporation. I think it is extremely likely that the same group that handles the sales for Orient Watch will also be responsible for Trume. If this proves to be successful it will be interesting to see how, if at all, this impacts the relationship with Seiko Watch Corporation that is part of Seiko Holdings Corporation. They have obviously had a long and successful relationship so the introduction of a competitor to their major customer will be intriguing to see develop. Will Epson allow some of the new functionality in the Trume models to be integrated into the Astron line up or will they keep these developments for themselves. My guess is that Epson may begin to hold more technology developments exclusively for their models for a period of time, e.g. 12 months before allowing these to appear in other company products. As Epson is responsible for the production of key models like Astron, GS quartz, SpringDrive etc. for Seiko Watch I am sure many people will be keeping a close eye on the evolution of the Epson sales activities.

I just noticed that the new OS Moonphase had Epson stamped on the caseback

That is an interesting comment on the Epson branding being so prominent on the new OS. This may indicate that Epson will be more aggressive than they had previously indicated. Thanks for the information.
The Epson branding has always been clear on their Smart Canvas and Wristable GPS models so they are probably making more of a unified approach and the Epson brand seems like a good umbrella to group this under. I wonder if the Trume models will have Epson marked on the rear of them when released?
