Hey all, my latest score arrived a few days ago and this morning my battery order arrived from Cousins. It's a Seiko UC-3000 which is their cool smart watch from 1984. Non working but we all live in hope don't we? It connects with a Seiko UC-3100 keyboard giving it some cool functions. Fingers crossed... clean the contacts, battery in, short circuit and.... YES! Ok, so it thinks it's the first of January 1984. It must have seen my fashion sense. So we will attend to that which will let me see if the buttons works as they should. And YES! Score Two! So now a fresh battery for the keyboard and see what we can do here: Bugger, no matter what buttons I press it doesn't go any further than this. We'll see what we can do, a few hours more research needed to see if there are any common problems. So on to my request: does anyone have a copy of the UC-3000 instruction manual? I have spent a couple of hours looking and either there isn't a copy online there or my google-fu is weak today. *Edit - should have said - I need to check which battery is for the keyboard as I have read contradicting things. I've put a CR2016 in it. I've also read it should be CR2020 but I haven't got any of those Cheers all, Pip

From what I have seen the most common problem is the receiving antenna gets damaged when people are changing batteries. Take a close look at that and see if you spot any damage.

The CR2020 is a tad thicker than the CR2016. So maybe it is not contacting properly ? Get a CR2020 for sure anyway. Good luck, that is a Fantastic Score ! BTW, I imagine Myles and all his Red Sox buddies could make use of it too

Ok, I'll spring for a 2020, thanks for the heads up on thickness. I'll buy one at a shop though as if I add any to my cousins order the postage goes through the roof.
And it may even be a tad obvious for the Red Sox when they attach the keyboard!

Ok, I've had a look around and Cousins don't do the CR2020 and nor do a lot of other places and high street places are after £6 a shot which seems steep for something that's only an outside shot of fixing the issue. Have they been discontinued? Does anyone have a spare one they'd be willing to trade for a CR2016 or CR2325 or sell to me?
Thanks.

Try batterybob.com They have them but not sure if they ship internationally.

Readily available in the supermarkets and only 0.5mm thicker than the 2020.

Well I had the keyboard unit apart, cleaned it all up and inspected it. Can't find anything wrong apart from the fact that the whole unit seems slightly bent. It seemed to pass the Seiko tests I could do though. So back to the watch. I realised I'd not tested the alarm on it, so set it and activated it. When it reached the alarm time I thought there was nothing, then when I held it close to my ear with no other sounds in the room I could JUST hear it faintly. That can't be good. So I had the watch apart to give it a deeper clean and inspection... and I've found the problem. Like most of these things it is obvious now I look at it. Here is a close up of the transmission coil through my microscope. So it looks like that is shot then. Bugger. So I'll be looking out for a donor watch that's not working but has an undamaged coil section I can swap over, I think the coil is the same on a UC2000 and a UC3000. On the bright side, if nothing else I got a cool watch from 1984 😁
