I had my ISP (Virgin Media) upgrade my kit yesterday, new V6 set top box and new hub. Old kit was taken away by the engineer, but for some reason my old router is still visible and my laptop still connects to it. My other devices have been configured to the new router, but I haven’t changed the settings on the laptop. How can this be possible?

Technically you cannot...however, sure you wern't connected to a neighboring router that was open and that your laptop still finds?
By neighboring I mean some other guys equipment in a house etc close by. Happens a lot. The Lappie originally searches for signal, finds a strong one and you without looking select it...(of course you wouldnt do that on purpose) as the default passwords are never reset by some owners and are simple (admin or 1234) you get free wifi.
Of course there is always the possibility that the "engineer" sold or gave the kit to someone geographically close to you who is using it with your old passwords still active.

After speaking with my ISP, it seems the WiFi hotspots that are plugged in are retaining my old router’s SSID, despite having reset them to factory settings. When I switch those off the old router isn’t visible; switch them on and it reappears. I can’t get them to clone the new router so am using their ‘own’ network. End result is all good - 100+Mb wireless through the router, around 40Mb using the hotspots.
