Hi guys. I bought a watch on impulse mainly because I liked the indices and that it was not Seiko for a change. I know little of Ricoh other than they make office equipment now and sponsor my local football stadium Coventry City! I won it for £20 and I was surprised firstly by the size as it’s quite a big watch. Okay it needs a crystal but already I have a few on order at cousins , hopefully one will fit. Their selection is so vast you get lost in what your really looking for. This watch packs a punch separate dat date windows. Separate button for quickset. Auto with manual wind. I opened the back and I think it’s the first time ever. Movement is mint condition but loosing a little time. I’m not sure yet if I will attempt a service as I need to research these further. Dial is absolutely immaculate which I’m pleased about . I will refinish the case once I’ve figured out how to remove the pusher... Signed crown too. What do you guys think?

Like it,
I think Ricoh is under appreciated, a minuscule market share over the years compared to Seiko and Citizen, which means they are much rarer in general. Yours is a nice example. I think people might be put off by some of the examples coming out of India, but hey, they are missing out :-)

Ordered a nice grey strap to go with. Despite having considerable amount of projects on this one will be done in no time.

Back in the day, Ricoh made mechanical watches that were as good as any that Seiko, Orient or Citizen produced. Today, Ricoh still makes quartz watches for mostly the home market. At one time, Ricoh made some pretty nice cameras as well.

I dig it, but it gave me a flash back to that Orient I did. Those little springs for the day \ date will give you a run for your money. I to thought "Despite having considerable amount of projects on this one will be done in no time." start to breath and look for spares...

Just crystal and case then see how we get on. As long as it keeps time for a day it will be enough until I find more info on the movement.

I will also put on TG once I have a lift angle and see if it just needs a tweak

Yeah. Have got a dozen or so of them some near new. Ricoh developed an electricwatch and went into a short lived partnership with Hamilton.I think I sent Pete one of them a couple of years back, nice blue faced one. Don’t wear these these watches either and nead to sell. Still have Ricoh SLR cameras here. Bodies are bullet proof and lenses very high quality. I bought a couple of Ricoh cameras from there high range in 1981. These things would beat just about anything at the time (except high quality professional stuff). That being said many newspaper photographers and wedding photographers were using them.

Tristan hooked me up with this diver when I was trying to source parts for a different watch. Interesting watch, similar to the Citizen divers of the era. Weird pumper date set. Needs a service and crown repacked. Also picked up one of the world time examples floating around eBay. These mostly appear to be fakes or redials, though once in a while a legit example pops up.

If memory serves, Thian has a nice gold-plated Ricoh "Datejust".

Ricoh also made a diver that is very close to the tuna but it has an orange dial!

Looks good. I also like the look of some of those early Riquartz 570s.

Mike, that dial is *lovely*. Looks just about as impressive as any grey linen I've seen, and in immaculate shape! I have a Slava that has the same date set method. There are some other interesting variations. Wow, now you've got me on the Slava hunt. My friend and I have an inside joke about our European heritage, and something with a huge applied "SLAVA" on the dial will make the perfect gift for him. It's a shame that the majority of their cases seem to be nickel-plated base metal, and suffering quite heavily from degradation of the coating (see below). This appears to be because these watches were produced primarily for "civilian consumption", where the delivery of long-lasting quality was probably not of primary concern. a very common occuranceAny knowledge of stainless steel Slavas? (My head is starting to spin with modding ideas to avoid casing and movement issues...)

Nice pickup! Never went down the Ricoh road, although had my eye on an orange Ricoh tuna done years back. Congrats!
