So this joblot appeared for sale on the weekend with a too high BIN price but luckily the seller reduced it so I bought it. Was only interested in the 7548 & figured I'd sell the rest of the tat which would mean that I'd end up paying a fair market price for the 7548. There's nothing else of any value there but I had no real idea what the white Casio G-shock was worth so I did a bit of research & found out that it was a limited edition of 2000 watches with a reasonable value & quite sought after by some people. For about a minute, I thought that I'd be quids in with this lot until I found out that there are many fakes around of this model. (Sellers Pic) The watches arrived yesterday, strapped on the 7548, went on the net & found out that I now own a fake Casio, which is what I'd expected anyway. I had no idea that Casio watches had been faked until a couple of days ago. Here it is: And here's a real one As you can see, the main differences are with the 'War 21st Resist' text that's beneath the time & the size/position of the day/date but also the serial no. on the fakes case back is only visible in a certain light. I've lost the pic showing the case back number at the bottom of the back, but if you tilt the watch into the light, it shows clearly as black lettering which is invisible in this shot. So it sounds like a lot of these fakes were sold on the bay & elsewhere when these were new, so a lot of people got conned. There's a happy ending for me though as I got a bit of a refund from the seller & I've got a 7548-700H which has potential & is a bit less common than the other variants.

I respect the hell out of Casio and G-Shocks (and Pathfinders) but...I cannot fathom them being collectible or the pricing on some of the LE versions. It's a microprocessor that tells time (no great feat), may have additional desirable features (or questionable - who really uses the tides function in a Riseman Gulfman?) and it is housed in a ridiculously durable case. Beyond that why have 20 of them? Hell, without atomic sync the quartz module isn't even all that accurate (relative to what quartz can do).
Well...to each his own I suppose...

I don't get it either & I think the real version of the limited edition white Casio 'Bape' cost around $600 when new & was worn in music videos by some famous rappers which I suppose gives it a similar following to the Seiko Arnie.

It just shows ya that anything can be copied/faked as long as there is enough money to be made! As to the Watches themselfs..........G Shocks for what they sell for are a HUGE waste of money! JMHO

JMHO Kinda depends. If you really need indestructable regardless of cost then they're pretty good value. I was workiing in a Casio dealer around when the originals were released and I can say with absolute confidence that you can smack 'em for six with a cricket bat and not damage them. But how many people really need that level of tough?

Unfortunately fake G Shocks and shitty G Shock "homages" are far too common. I see them everywhere. Fortunately the evil doers have not successfully reproduced the LCD display so they are easy to spot. The G Shock collecting culture doesn't overlap much at all with the general watch collecting culture. The watches are more fashion to them and have more in common with those collecting Nikes than those collecting Seikos. This has been fueled by the never ending release of custom limited editions made for various hipster boutique stores. I believe BAPE is a clothing store which originated in Japan and was an early adopter of the use of limited edition G Shocks for promotion. This is why the BAPE models in particular are so popular....and counterfeited. Most of the customs are atrocious, but the Ultraman one was damn cool as was the Akira one. Now you could have some fun with that Baby G with the discolored resin. That style was called a Jelly and believe it or not, you can breathe new life into it by dying it with fabric dye and changing its color. I've been dying to try (did you see what I just did there?) but jellys are hard to find these days as when they look disgusting like that people will pitch them into the trash. Here's some instructions if you're interested in trying yourself. mygshock.com/wiki/Dye_a_G-Shock

I love Casios, but I never understood the "$500 Bathing Ape Pink Limited Edition" thing. It's still a plastic G-Shock... Oh well, I guess the Casiophiles would say the same about our Speed-Timer vs. non-Speed-Timer thing.
People will fake anything collectible and worth money, and Casio guys will spend some pretty serious coin.
I love that -700H! yes1.gif
