Thanks guys.... Just too much seriously and a lot of bloody arguing....sure we'll get through it... Hers is an idea of what we are faced with. imgur.com/a/MJcRx32Stripping, painting, cleaning...we almost split up about 4 times! Pip, sla017 doesn't interest me a tenth as to how much I could do with a good pint of ale right now! Anyway cheers I'll keep you updated and hopefully will see progress... New jobs and new houses are two of the primary causes of divorce. But, with our encouragement, you and Mrs J will make it through and you will have a 'to die for' home when you are done.

Never mind moving, you gotta renovate it first, right? This is a bit more work than I imagined... I'll send you a pint or two and good luck, mate! Tell your girl than any fight you're having during this shouldn't affect the future of your relationship...

Anyway the removal men came, they saw....and just left as nowhere to park so will do another quick delivery and come back....
This isn't a good sign. Said they would be half an hour. We shall see..

Shame about the wall paper I think its kind of groovy.
We're about 3 weeks from getting back into our house. While we had a contractor doing all the repairs after the fire I have still spent a few nights on the couch after arguing...Most of the stress between the Mrs. and I are over the loss of items but also the plan going forward.
I remember after the fire, talking to the president where I work. He asked of there was anything the company could do and said just think you'll be getting a brand new house. I looked at him and said "My wife and I can't agree on where to go out for dinner on a Friday night and now we need to pick everything from paint colors, to cabinets and flooring." All of a sudden it was like he was seeing a ghost or something His eyes turn red and his checks sunk almost a tear welled up, his voice softened and he said "My god I'd completely forgotten and blocked it from my memory but I almost divorced over a set of bar stools around the island in the kitchen!" He and his wife had built a home from the ground up and they went into it already having an idea what they wanted but then all the details and decisions. In his case money wasn't ever an issue in mine we have had to make huge (relative to my income) decisions.
I had always dreamed of buying an old "mansion" in a small rural area that was in need of some loving but at my age now and life moving pretty quick I never see it happening...
Good luck and remember to just breath...

Thanks Todd. Sounds like you have it hard at the moment....wishing you the best with it.
I've started to accept that the one room I'll have for me is the watch room and so I'm just letting everything else happen.... too many arguments already about ovens and paintings that I've had enough!
Anyway the piano is here and safe although it was dropped by about half a foot...needs a tuning anyway but at least that will keep me sane for a few minutes each day.

Gee mate, you certainly have taken on a biggy there. It’s a shame someone let a monkey disguised as a tradesman loose on the floor. Otherwise it would sand up really nice. It still might work with an initial sand then run a colour matched slurry over the lot and sand back from there. The colours in the boards an quite good and the original quality of the timber is much better than what’s available these days. Cheers Phil

Thanks Phil.
Well the floor in the watch room needs levelling as I was going to put a simple laminate down... and today the condensate pipe was exposed as leaking after a problematic gas pipe was found. The leaking condensate pipe has dissolved another copper pipe which means the radiators and hot water can't get flowing 'til Friday....at a rather large cost ...so sleeping again in a freezing cold house with no heating and hot water yet again on my own as the other half doesn't want to.
Can I change my mind yet....

Gas back. Boiler working. Hot water and heating on. Floor sanded in the watch room and so ready for the fibre boards and laminate to go down. Just need to do some painting and I'll be set up hopefully by Monday evening to finally get some work done....
Kitchen and bathroom are livable. Getting there.

My wife having me return this...yet another disappointment...I guess she thought when she asked "It looks big do you think its gonna fit in the room?" I said yes I measured three times. Her idea of fitting and mine are different and she wins; returning this weekend and playing Pontius Pilate for the time being with any more decisions. Because "no I can't just buy a smaller one."Hey I can dream though.

I'm no interior decorator but I think the rug would fit in better turned 90 degrees.
And the walls match the fire hydrant (or is that spectre?) outside

Cheers all. Quick pic of the room I mostly work in as of the last couple of days.... Spare room has some other stuff and eventually will be a base for soldering and cleaning.. But it was like this. And now looking better. After many nightmares with the fireplace here and some leaks and so on... this room will be getting the floor sanded soon and we'll paint it after filling any holes in the walls...staining the floor slightly darker so we can blend the new boards hopefully...

Crown molding, original hardwood floors and that fireplace all superb GuyJ. I eat that stuff up. My wife and I just restored our ca. 1925 farmhouse last year. Huge undertaking is an understatement. Just can’t buy it off the shelf like that anymore. If those walls could speak... Good on you my friend. Happy for ya.

Unfortunately the fireplaces were removed so this was a replacement and won't be functional. Downstairs has one to be installed and will be functional so I'll update with that.
Cheers Todd. Getting there but I don't wanna do this again for a long time.
