Let me state for the record that I got this for my kids to learn about the process. If it makes watch related stuff, well, it was educational. I swear. It is a Creality Ender 3.
How do I get started? I can't find a decent 3d CAD program. It needs to be suitable for an 8 year old to learn and hopefully free. I want to design a simple tool like a movement holder or case back tool. I have a spare movement to measure and use for a model. If I can do a holder, I can do a movement spacer that I need for a project.
I understand the process start to finish. I can download various things to slice and send to the printer. I want to be able to go from idea to part. This is a thorny request because many of the things I want to make are offered on ebay or a commercial product. I want to be able to do this, on my own, because I can make the exact tool for the job. Also, should be much faster than ordering and waiting.

TinkerCAD, www.tinkercad.com/SketchUp, www.sketchup.com/Both have tutorials that should get you started. TinkerCAD is said to be easier that SketchUp to learn. Dunno about 8 year olds, though.
