While I wait for just the right 7548 to present itself, I thought that I might make a stab at putting together a look-alike from bits and pieces.
My plan is to start with one of the following cases - 6309-7290, 7002-70xx or 7s26-0020. Drop in a 7546, a 7n36 or maybe a 5m43.
The 6309 and 7002 will hold the 7546 and the 7n36 and they all use the 4 o'clock crown. They all use the same hands and hole sizes.
The 7s26-0020 case will hold the 5m43. Not sure about getting the standard diver hands to fit but something to investigate. With the 5m43 rotated to a 3:18 crown position, the date wheel will line up but will have to find a day wheel that will work.
The dial will either be a genuine 7548 or one of the really good AM ones. Once all the bits are collected(or donated ) I will do a complete photo journal post on the whole process.
This will be my project and I will be responsible for making it happen. I will also be the recipient of this fine 'new' watch Once I decide on the case to use, I can start sourcing the other bits.

The Kinetics use quartz size hands, so you'd need to get something like the quartz knight hands or start out with a battered SKJ00x which already has the Seiko diver hands.
Second hand size is the same.
I think putting the 5M into a 7S case has it's own challenges, mainly the height of the movement.

Somebody will get this job done with the help of Everybody. Nobody will be disappointed. Anybody can see that.

I believe 7546 has the same hand size as automatics (90/150) but the 7N36 i am pretty sure uses quartz size (65/110)

All the 5m43 movements I see now are either flood victims, battery poisoning victims or the last person to touch them was too lazy to put the battery and rotor bits back in place. None seem worth the risk.
So, I found a pretty nice 6309-7290 case hiding at the back of one of my tool drawers. It has a crean back gasket groove and a functioning click ball.
This will be the base to which I will add: case back, crytal/gasket/retaining ring/chapter ring, movement spacer, bezel with insert, dial, hands and crown/stem..
Sadly, I donated many of these parts to the group project that nobody wanted to own.
At this point, decent AM parts will suffice since it is the exercise that counts with this project.
Any parts donated to this project will be used and will get recognition along with my thanks

I’ve actually had a similar itch to swap a ETA quartz movt into something that normally takes an ETA 2824 or something in that family. Just waiting for the right candidate

Just waiting for the right candidate You may find that some Omega models that came as mechanical and quartz would offer you this opportunity. A quick check of the specs on the 2824 and some of the 955 modules should find suitable options.

Thanks, I’ve got the mov’t part figured out, just need to find a candidate watch that isn’t so ‘precious’ that I’d feel bad about the swap.

Unfortunately none of the current eta quartz use the same ahnd size as the automatics. And their quartz movements are about half the thickness of their automatics.
Edit. i take that back. The chrono series (251.xxx) are thick enough and have the same hands. You can clip of the sub hands if you wish.

Not worried about hand size. I think the thickness isn’t an issue since the quartz don’t have a winding mech. I’ll need to verify stem height though
