So my silver gamble arrived, lookin pretty rough. I'm guessing some water entry and then a service because the rotor is very corroded, but the rest of the movement looks clean. Lowish amplitude, -20s/d, 0.4 beat error, probably gonna leave it as is there. Was kinda hoping that all that visible gunk was just on the crystal, and I stumbled on a pristine example, but not quite . Some serious gunk spots on the dial. Not really sure what they would be from. Cleaned it all up a little bit, haven't had much experience cleaning dials before though. Just offhand advice i'd gleaned from browsing forums. Ended up doing the most work with a toothpick sharpened to a flat chisel, scraping with the grain of the sunburst. It did help a good bit, but not 100%. Also lost some of the dial code via that method, definitely not for areas of the dial with printing. Kinda thinking i'll keep it going as a 'beater' for now. I had a new chapter ring, but it seemed out of place with the rest of the whole ensemble. Maybe with a newer chapter ring and bezel insert it'll fit. Almost feelin a little buyer's remorse if i'm being honest, but we'll just have to see. Also if ya'll have any more tips for cleaning up the dial further, please pass them along!

All in all not to shabby. You did learn an important lesson though! Stay away from any text on the dial. Generally, there's not much that can be done with dials other then a gentle cleaning. Very gentle. They damage easily and any attempt to remove damage usually incurs more damage.
If it were mine I would re-lume the dial + hands which will make the dial appear much nicer and replace the inner + outer bezels to spruce it up a bit.

I'm not big on the idea of a relume TBH, I do think i'll swap the bezel and chapter ring though, Got a decent insert in the mail and a new chapter ring in the drawer

I would have it re-lumed as well. Maybe an aged look, so it doesn’t glow like a torch.

Short of a lume plot falling off and working itself into the movement, what further degradation could occur? I'm still trying to decide if it's even staying TBH, still not sure about it.

The dark lume indicates that water got in. That dark mung usually doesn't remain static. Usually grows AFAIK.
Even if the dark lume is not going to get any worse, the improved looks will dramatically increase the value (with some - decrease it for others) but it may also make you fall in love with the watch.
Silver 6139s are not that common so you may have a serious case of seller's remorse if you move it along.

That is true, I may regret it. But the dial damage does bother me in a way that the lume damage doesn't... I think i'll order a new crystal today, and then give it a week or so to really decide. I don't really want to start putting money into it if it's gonna move on, not really concerned about flipping for a profit.
