.
Hey folks, I have been feeling a bit "down" this week. Nothing I can put my finger on, perhaps I am just feeling old. (I messed up my left knee doing yard work a couple of weeks ago, and it is healing slowly. But "better every day".) Maybe that is why I said "The heck with it!' and stressed my tiny budget with two purchases this morning! They weren't all that expensive, but my budget this month is very small. The first was this 1965 Seikomatic-R 8306-8000. Of course, one reason I wanted it, is that it is yet another beautiful and special -8000 model!! Also I believe I read that the first year or so of the Seikomatic-R (like this one) have a clear lacquer covered dial and the desirable "Dolphin" case-back. And I have been taught to appreciate the 8306 30-jewel movement, where "every jewel has a purpose". Here are the seller's pics: Next was another 1965 Seiko, this one a June of 1965, the birth year and month of one of my brothers! So if I don't like it (!!) I could always see if he wanted it, right? It is a 1965 Seiko 5 Sportsmatic with a 7606-7960 case code. I'm not sure I had a 7606 movement in my collection before. Imagine that! But "Wow!" is it good looking or what?? So clean and with that white sunburst texture on the dial. I even like the "black & white" day/date on this particular watch, due to the other black bits elsewhere on the dial, and how black and gold always seem to go together (and imply luxury). They will end costing me (after broker fess, foreign exchange charges and shipping) about US$250 and US$275 respectively, but I thought they were well worth it.
What do you think? Do you like em? - Thomas .

If I had to choose a favourite it would be that 7606 Sportsmatic.
In my opinion it has everything going for it; dial layout, hands and even the gold/silver scheme.
By the by, I should make a concerted effort to acquire a Sportsmatic.
All in all they are solid purchases, congratulations Thomas.

Thomas that 7606-7960 is an absolute STUNNER ! The EGP case looks phenomenal. That's one I would have popped on at that price too !

Now that you mention it, Nick, I don't think I have ever seen a photo of Thomas with one of his watches on his wrist. They’re a bit like hen’s teeth Mikey. We get treated to the very occasional wrist shot when Thomas does one of his legendary ‘unboxing’ threads, but then I can only assume that said watch goes straight back into the box as they’re never seen ‘in the wild’ again

Now the rest of us are just left to drool.
