Re-lume hands to color-match the dial. So you wouldn't do the hour markers? Just the hands?

Can I buy a red dot for the second hand somewhere?
I thought it fell off on the dial and when I got it it was a red plop of paint on the crystal

Re-lume hands to color-match the dial. So you wouldn't do the hour markers? Just the hands? I don't mind how the dial looks, so if you have someone who can do a decent match of the hands to the basic color of the lume on the dial, that's what I would do. But I honestly feel this is a matter of personal taste and depends on how you feel about the dial. Also, from the responses on this thread I'm very much sensing that Seiko collectors are pretty tolerant of re-lumes, so you should probably take my opinion with a tiny grain of salt. The dial restorer can also tint some lume red for that section of the sweep hand. You don't want it to be bright red IMO, that always stands out to me as fake-looking on an old watch.

Be interested to see how the relume looks once done! Nice watch, too.

I’m at my watchmaker now. We’re both on the same page and he’s going to relume the dial and hands. If we did just the hands the dial would look wonky. He’s armed with a bunch of high resolution photos of the color I want - white with a pinch of yellow for patina.
So he’s going to do samples first and we’ll decide
Everything else is standard. Service movement, new mainspring, no case polishing. Bought a Type II crystal from Spencer.
Will be keeping old crystal and any old parts that are replaced

Is this the watch your dad found. Dont you just love those faded bezel inserts. Not my dad but the seller’s 92 year old father in law while walking the beach in California. It was in the surf. According to the seller it was in 1974. It became his daily wearer for decades and never had it serviced. It came to me on an old crusted Speidel flex bracelet
