It hadn't even occurred to me to post. I have been lurking the Hamilton forum on WUS but no reason to post this little unassuming watch over there. I had been having a back brain tickle for a field watch and was mulling a mod on an SNK80x but I've had one before and the case dimensions weren't really what I wanted and there were no AM hand sets out there that really captured what I wanted. I didn't need another watch with mil-ladder hands, I love them but I have enough. This is the current generation Hamilton homage to their own mil spec watches from the 60's. At 38mm it is a bit larger. I think it would have worked really well at 36mm but I guess the marketing whiz kids at Swatch didn't think so. Picked it up at Jomashop just after Thanksgiving on sale for $280. It is the "tropicalized" brown dial. Aged lume effect is very nice and while I know some take issue with it I see it as an aesthetic which done tastefully is quite pleasing. The movement is an ETA 2802-1, 28.8bph, manual wind. First manual wind since having a drugstore Timex as a kid. Winding action is like butter. Watch is running a fairly consistent 4 to 6 seconds fast per day. No idea about reserve as I wind it every 24 hours. I've been wearing it every day for three weeks and sleeping with it as well. There have been brief intervals of wearing other watches but generally none for more than a few hours. The comfort, simplicity, the essential watchness of it is addictive. Almost everything else I own, which is primarily divers, feels monsterous, bulky, top heavy, cumbersome. It's really turned a key in my head about what I want/need in a watch. I'm really thinking I want more simple small watches. If (when) Eddie Platts recovers his health and reopens I am seriously thinking about his Smiths PRS-29 www.timefactors.com/prs29new.htm and his Smiths Everest PRS-25 www.timefactors.com/prs25black.htmAnd this being a smallish watch with long 20mm lugs it has opened up my inner strap whore. Rubber looks stupid and most of my leather is not quite suited either. The Hamilton interpretation of a G10 that came with the watch is about 5mm too short and not really that attractive. Obviously it is fine on a host of 20mm G10s, 2-ring Zulus, 2-piece Zulus, and 1-piece nylon mil straps that I already own but... Haveston M-1936-B - this was the first thing I bought. Great material and very complimentary colors. Has a little of the WWII vibe. Dark OD/Black Perlon - this was pretty damn perfect in all respects except that over time all Perlons tend to feel a little scratchy to me. Faux Marine Nationale - this is a cheap elasticized nylon in the classic MN colorway. It is my first foray into that material and I wasn't ready to drop major $$$ on an Erika's Original. After a lot of research I'm still not. Been looking at Watch Steward straps. I think I may prefer his approach to the mounting and attachment (and 3x less money). I have to say this is one of the most comfortable straps I have ever worn, period. I cut the excess length and put a few stitches in place to keep the tail from wandering. So removal now requires popping the spring bars but that is okay, it would otherwise require unthreading the buckle which is a mild pain. I have no plans on swapping it out any time soon.

Continuing the diversion into elastic nylon, this is a good comparison of the three somewhat premium purveyors of the style.
I am intrigued by Nick Manky because he does an 18mm version and I have been looking for something comfy to wear my wife's Seamaster on. it is a 35mm watch with 18mm lugs, cal 354 from 1953 and was her father's. Between Jonathan and Spencer I had it restored 7 years ago but she doesn't wear it. With my newfound appreciation for small and simple I think a strap that is custom to my wrist would not be an unreasonable purchase.
I am thinking about one of Watch Stewards 19mm specifically for my 6105-8110. That watch is always searching for the perfect strap and this has a good a chance as any.
Two days in on the cheapestnatostraps faux-MN and I am actually tempted to get some more. This is their $10 "Paratrooper" strap.
They also have a $16 adjustable version they brand as Marine Nationale strap.

Thanks for posting Saul. I know there are a few others here who appreciate these watches

After several days of deep diving online I decided to buy a bunch more of the cheapest ones. $10 straps from cheapestnatostrapsDOTcom. They need to be cut to length and benefit from a couple of stitches but they are the most minimal ones out there and for the price of 2 from the non-Erika's premium competitors I get seven straps! :-) The 18mm is for the Seamaster and the 19mm for my 6105-8110. The 24mm is yet another attempt for something more comfortable on my CO23 Aqualand. The rest will do the rounds on the usual suspects.

Looks great Saul !
The only problem I note with the genuine Marine Nationale strap is that it is hard as hell to close the clasp. Requires pushing down on the watch face while manipulating the darn clasp with my free hand. About as hard as undoing a bra in the back seat of a Chevy in high school.

The clasp on the CNS is pretty easy to hook and feels fairly secure.
I never had to undo anyone's bra in high school. The only ones to which I had access came flying off with enthusiasm.

Aloha Some day I'll have another like that even if a parts watch to repair. I still look for those ...... Benrus ones that were used in Vietnam, (Parts Ones would be OK also. ) Had a few from Vietnam Days but were all gone later. Louis

Hamilton really know how to make the most of their heritage. This may be quartz, but they nailed the look. I wish Seiko could do the same at an affordable price.

I realize it needs some balance leaving the space blank doesn't look right either but "mechanical" I think they spoiled it.

One of the reasons I so readily purchased the one I did is that it did not have the word "Khaki" on the dial.

One of the reasons I so readily purchased the one I did is that it did not have the word "Khaki" on the dial. Its interesting looking at their watches how their dials end up being laid out. With the inner 24hr scale the dial looks just fine and has no need for further embellishment, yet they have one ahead on others with similar dial and add "Khaki". they added that to their dive watches too, which keeps me away from them. That and I don't need another dive watch... Here you can see what seem to be the same dial layout, font and size although different colors.
