1979's 9923-7020 out of my last Japanese box needed a fresh battery. Working on a 7019 from the same batch that needs a bit more care.

Switch #1 for the day. You need a degree from MIT to set and sync the time. Let's see if it makes it past noon. Rob

Supposed to warm up to 11C or 52F today, so I'll be sitting out on the deck with a good book starting with a coffee and then? I'm going non-Sushi at the moment.

This is an all original, pride of my military collection, WW2 government issued Hamilton “Canteen” watch that was one of the first American waterproof watches. These in this condition are very rare. It was issued to Navy Frogmen who were part of UDT’s (underwater demolition teams). These sailors were the predecessors to the current Navy SEALS. “USN BUSHIPS” on the dial stands for US Navy Bureau of Ships. The watch retains it’s original, thick glass crystal albeit it scratched from use that was soldered to the bezel to create a hermetic seal. To find an original glass with the solder intact is rare. It also has the screw down crown protector attached to a little chain. Hence the name “canteen.” It has a little crown inside to wind. It has a hacking 17 jewel movement with a central seconds hand that had never been used before and runs like a little steam engine. What sets this off is the metal band that I sourced for it. It’s a NOS 1940’s precursor to the “Olongapo” bracelets. Often used to replace canvas straps that rotted. By now if anyone pays attention to my posts, I love sourcing vintage bracelets for my watches like the rally style for my Seiko chronographs. This one has a nice filigree-like engraving including the letters “US.” It fits great, locks into place, light as a feather, and highly durable. It hugs the contours of my wrist. It even has a little metal collar for the tongue end of it. What’s neat is I have the original box. Nothing like adding a cool bracelet for that period look complementing it perfectly in my opinion. That's a very cool piece of history you have there. Sounds like it would be a bugger to replace the crystal should you feel so inclined.
