These critters are usually going about, one mom with to or three smaller ones. I am sure they are being presented to the world. However, packs of males are also seen. They have started becoming pests in my area because they wet to all sorts of garbage cans...
How to get rid of these be it in a radical and cruel way of "biologically"?

yes but they are vectors and can also be contagious to many illnesses. Also, they throw garbage all over the place.

No wonder they're scavenging in packs if they've learnt to use the bus...

We live in the Country and as of late I am having a BIG problem with Racoons! They eat my plants and they ruin my veggie garden by digging it up in search for roots! They climb on top of the house and you can hear them russtling about! They carry a MULTITUDE of diseases and are VICIOUS when confronted! Other then setting Have A Heart traps to catch them I know of no way to get rid of them! I would shoot them if I could but it's against the law and I may endanger my neighbor should I happen to miss!

Maybe lacing meat with warfarin might be the last solution.

Leaving out poison is never a good idea, you never know what you're going to kill.

Leaving out poison is never a good idea, you never know what you're going to kill. My wife deters them with a super soaker gun. They do not like that. We call this one 'Dead Eye' because when you shine a light at him/her, only one eye reflects back at you... I took this just before it climbed into the cherry tree for a feast and about 30 seconds before it got a thorough soaking and took off.

That's awesome, you need to get some video of her taking care of business... machine-gun

Jose, maybe take advice from the old joke that mentions that a Catholic church solved their squirrel over population problem by baptizing them and making them church members. That way the squirrels were only seen at Christmas and Easter.

Good one Norm.
As a matter of fact I have had problems with Racoons before. In Chicago we lived in a northern suburb where Racoons were not too much of a problem but SQUIRRELS were... Our home was a townhouse and we started hearing noises at certain times of day and we thought that it was the neighbor. I chatted with the neighbor and asked if they were doing any remodelling and he said that he wanted to ask us the same question. Well, since both of us were then puzzled, we decided to call an exterminator to come and see what was happening. The reply of the exterminator was that he had seen a racoon nesting and that he could not do anything. He recommended we call animal control who were the official body for getting rid of them. Animal control came by, had to knock out the female and took the four cubs. Then took them away. However we were left with a damaged roof on both townhomes.
(&/$#/$" Racoons, they should obliterate them. I read the article on Wiki about racoons. They had them in the caribbean islands but since people ate them there they ended up extinct. I also heard from a friend that there is a great documentary about them and the places where they have gone viral due to the stupidity of man and the lack of natural enimies: Japan and Germany.
Now in Mexico, maybe they are using them to make tamales.... they could be delicious on huevos rancheros with a Corona for the hangover. By the way.... the name for a racoon in Mexico is "MAPACHE".

The water spray is definitely the way to go as they HATE being sprayed with water but the ONLY problem is that they NEVER come out during the day so I can spray them. Its always in the middle of the night and there are 2 of them because my neighbor across the street gets home around 3:00 AM and sees them frollicking on top of my roof! I read extensively about them on the NET and they dig up my garden because they are looking for roots to eat! I have put sliced up yellow onion bits on top of the soil and that keeps them away so far as they hate the smell! The info I gathered says they climb or get on my roof via tree branches so the next time my gardner comes I'm going to have him cut off the Avocado branches that hang over and perhaps that too will keep them from getting where they arent supposed to be??

My Dad puts food out for the Racoons in his yard. His cats don't seem to mind.

One time , when I got lost in the wilderness and was moments away from death. A raccoon dragged me to safety and fed me, and gave me water and shelter.
Then again I was pretty out of it and possibly hallucinating. I'll never know for sure if that was a ranger or a raccoon named Ranger. Either way ... I am rather fond of the little buggers.

You may not have noticed that my picture was taken during daylight. Normally they are nocturnal but around here it is not uncommon to see them any time of the day. They used to get on my roof but the trees were pruned back and I put a spike belt on the one piece of fence that was high enough for them to reach the gutter. It was funny watching them the first couple of time when they walked on the spikes laugh1.gif
