Small rant....
The original purpose of the two-tone bezel was to visualize overlap on the Tachy. That is called functional design.
This junk has a two tone bezel simply to appeal to fan boy yuppie. Pisses me off that Seiko would approve such a crap design. Not to mention the useless 24hr sub dial. 👎
Forum not allowing me to post pictures so that's all i got.
Rant over

Wait, you never need to figure out the speed of something traveling >300 miles per hour?

Wait, you never need to figure out the speed of something traveling >300 miles per hour? My first thought when I saw this. I suppose you could be measuring a process in mm or inches

Ahh took me a second. But now I see it. Only speedy I own is the 7A28-7039 which is two tone with numbered squares on the bezel, Its pretty subtle I'd forgotten...They even reference the originals in the Fratello article? Funny but mentioned just once in the comments, where one guy asked about the color change on the bezel, author aid there was no explanation.

They are nice looking watches but not really a huge fan of the relatively modest solar quartz movement. Also, not a fan of the three subdials. Looks a lot like this one. I got it in the Carribean and IIRC, it was not really an expensive watch. Probably sub $200 - $250?

I wear the black faced / black bezel version often enough. It's a good solid watch (mine's 11 years old now) but I have no use for the 24 hour sub-dial. I wear it when I know I'll be outdoors with a chance of getting wet and banging into things. So far mine still has no battle scars to speak of. I think it went for around $450 new, but don't hold me to that. I've got no complaints with it - it does what is expected of it, is well made and is reasonably attractive.
I wasn't bowled over by the new ones - I think my biggest knock against them is the price.

I have no issues with the solar divers. Like them in fact.

Does anyone under the age of 50 even know how to use a tachometer bezel these days?....... All these tool functions are outdated and obsoleted now that everyone has a cell phone in their pocket.
Heck even looking at your wrist for the time is outdated to some people

Does anyone under the age of 50 even know how to use a tachometer bezel these days?....... Recently I have fallen out of favor with the Tachy. I’m a huge Speedmaster fan but increasingly find myself turned off by the uselessness (to me) of it. I can’t time my burgers on the grill with a Tachy! Give me countdown, diver bezel, or even GMT. Those are functional in my life.

Even Tele is more functional. At least I can tell my kids how far away the lightning is.

A Telemeter watch is absolutely on my wrist list. I don't care how useless it is, it's just cool to me! I'd like to try it out on 4th of July fireworks displays too, but I bet it's just a bit to coarse with respect to viewing distance. Honestly I loath taking my phone out, and if I can tackle something using my good ole' wrist companion of the day it will absolutely be my go-to.

I actually don't mind these - but I think it is a waste of an opportunity for Seiko to make a proper mechanical re-edition of the 6139...
On the list of useless complications, add me in for a Tide calculator and a Regata timer... I live in the desert, so neither would be of any practical use - but I would still love having them!
