It is October 18th (somewhere) Day 18 of the October WRUW daily theme. Today's theme is “Wear a watch at a scenic or place of interest” e.g if you are in Paris take a shot of your watch in front of the Eiffel Tower or if you are at the Grand Canyon get a wrist shot. Sidebar: Did you know? I didn’t (back in 2015). I always thought it was i.e. for "in example". You learn something new every day. www.grammarly.com/blog/2014/know-your-latin-i-e-vs-e-g/Know your Latin: i.e. vs. e.g. i.e. is the abbreviation of the Latin phrase ‘id est,’ meaning ‘that is.’ e.g. is the abbreviation of the Latin phrase ‘exempli gratia,’ meaning ‘for example.’ Use i.e. when you want to give further explanation for something. Example: After work I’ll walk over to the Thunderdome, i.e., the new sports arena a few blocks away. Use e.g. when you want to give a few examples but not a complete list. Example: I love drinking holiday-related beverages, e.g., hot chocolate, apple cider, pumpkin spice lattes.
This one is almost as much of a "Gimme" as Freestyle Friday was.
Wear any watch you want but the creme de la creme will be the back drop.
No Green Screening it.
No Photoshopping it.
Post 2 pics.
1 with the watch in front of the place and one of the place from the same angle to showcase the scenery.
The better or fancier or historical the place the more Street Cred you get.
And for all of those participating I am not going to go down to the Welfare office again today

I know it's not a great angle, but it was a hurried shot. Orient Grand Prix 64.

Orient for me as well today. This is about as scenic as I’ll be seeing today, out for a late morning dog walk.

Lunch break is too short for a trip to the Brandenburg Gate and it's raining cats and dogs all day, so I opted for a local attraction here in Berlin-Wedding. It is the 'Alte Nazarethkirche' by Karl Friedrich Schinkel, build 1832-1835. The watch is a 7853-7000 Lord Quartz, build in 1978.

The Palace of the Parliament (Romanian: Palatul Parlamentului), also known as the Republic's House(Casa Republicii) or People's House/People's Palace (Casa Poporului), is the seat of the Parliament of Romania, located atop Dealul Spirii in Bucharest, the national capital. The Palace reaches a height of 84 metres (276 ft),[1] has a floor area of 365,000 square metres (3,930,000 sq ft)[2] and a volume of 2,550,000 cubic metres (90,000,000 cu ft). The Palace of the Parliament is the heaviest building in the world, weighing about 4,098,500,000 kilograms (9.04 billion pounds; 4.10 million tonnes), also being the second largest administrative building in the world after Pentagon. (The Great Pyramid of Giza is about 50% heavier.)

Seeing as the Grand Canyon is a 4 hour drive, and today is a Tuesday (and work day for me anyways), I took an easier opportunity. Welcome to the American Southwest, a quick walk from my front door. Cowboys, rattlesnakes, scorpions, coyotes in the moonlight - and the only place in the world you will find this: Not the Oris - you can find those anywhere. The saguaro cactus! These are native to the Sonoran Desert and not found anywhere else in the world. They can live for 150-200 years, attain a height of between 40-60ft (12-18m) and weigh over 4500 pounds (over 2,000kg). They are slow growing - a 10 year old saguaro might only measure 10 inches tall (25cm)! Its flower is also the “state flower” of Arizona, and becomes a fruit that the natives used to harvest as a source of food. Here's one that looks like a tuning fork to me: My (coolest and favorite) aunt - who is an amazing artist - is quick to point out that the two armed saguaro we all imagine is actually harder to spot. And she has drawn a few. You can check out some of her saguaro sketches here (worth the click for sure): www.lesliekooy.com/saguaropersonalitytypesBut I did spot a couple "classics": This one was off in the distance: The watch is (in my opinion) a beautifully executed diver. This is the Oris Aquis with a dark green dial - which looks black at some angles. The most moisture it is likely to see is whatever is left in my water bottle. This was a 20th b-day present for my son - and he lets me wear it from time to time. I particularly like how it does not feel like a Rolex or Omega derivative - it has its own aesthetic. I also really like the Oris brand - one of the few remaining independent Swiss watch makers. What does that sticker mean you ask? I'm not sure, but using context clues I believe this may be the sound a ghost makes: Oh, and they put an exhibition case back on this one - even if the Sellita SW200-1 isn’t the most exciting movement to look at, still extra points in my book! A modern mechanical watch without an exhibition case back is a missed opportunity IMO.

Sorry, been running late all day as I had too many commitments in my diary I couldn’t get out of. So a dark photo tonight. And behind it is a little piece of heaven for me at the moment, the woods at the edge of the village we have just moved to. Lovely place. That’s where the garden ends and the woods start. We have the Thames just round the corner, and Henley not far down the road. Loving it here. So to me, very scenic. To you? Maybe not so much.

No landmarks, but the backdrop is the beautiful Pacific Northwest from my office window with a MM300. It should be raining this time of year, but it's been an unseasonably dry September and October

rainier - beautiful. My dad lives up in the Pacific Northwest and his yard is also like a park. Great shot of the leaves in full autumn display!

How about a story (Waiting for the internet to EAT my post as soon as I hit reply)
How 'bout a story told through pictures.
Is that called photojournalism?
Isn't that one of those fake Liberal Arts degrees you get when your parents, I mean now Joe Biden, are the ones paying for your 4 year college education?
Anywho I got up and rode out of my way on the way to work in below freezing temps to go to the bridge overlooking the freeway that has a view of the downtown skyline and the lake to get a sunrise pic.
I took a photo a few years ago for one of the contests from there but of course I can't find the link to the post cuz the forum search engine sucks ass.
Jus' Sayin'
Well it looks like they redid the bridge, changed the jump off the bridge fencing on it, and changed the fencing on the approach so you can't get a good angle. And it seems the trees have grown cuz you can't see the skyline from there anymore
EDIT: found my old post through some old fashioned no search engine detective work.
I knew it was a Saturday on the way home from work, I knew it was summer, and I knew it was after work at TOJ so that eliminated 2017 and later and since the original themes were 2015 I started there and found it.
So now I have to freeze my ass off going downtown / the Northside at sundown to try and get a new picture so no one calls me a hypocrite.
I look down I don't have enough gas to make it down and back so I have to get off the freeway early to hit up the gas station that you don't have top prepay for gas at.
I DO NOT PREPAY FOR GAS.
I DO NOT PAY AT THE PUMP.
I DO NOT GO THROUGH THE DRIVE THROUGH.
Oh look a common scenic sight around these parts at the off ramp.
Should be good enough right?
Unfortunately it was most likely someone running a read light and not the just as common homicide so I have to keep looking.
5 squads.
Must be a slow day in Dirty Stallis
EDIT: day after news story about what happened
Down the block is the giant inflatable pumpkin Halloween costume store. Yes, an inflatable store.
It is a staple of the community and "World Renowned"
Must be good enough right?
Your / My tax dollars at work: Miller Park (now AmFam Field) After 20 years they finally got rid of the county sales tax we all had to pay to fund it. And 10 years ago they said they put in a new 10 OR 15 MILLION DOLLAR scoreboard while we are still paying for their stadium. Pay your phuking bills and stadium off yourself first before spending more money while we keep bailing your ass out.
Reminds me of shitheads with their food stamp cards checking out in front of me with $50 in chips and soda and name brand shit and steak and then whipping out $50 cash to pay for the alcohol in their same cart.
If you have $50 cash to buy alcohol you have $50 to pay for your phuking groceries like I have to and I'm not eating steak and name brand shit.
It is getting darker out now and I had to take my old cheap camera and the battery wouldn't take a charge last night and it takes shit pictures in the dark and . . .
There is no parking all along Canal street heading towards downtown so I couldn't stop and take pics when there was actually an unobstructed view of the skyline.
Sunset was hitting and I wish all I had to do was blink my eyes to save the image cuz there was nowhere to stop and the colors were 100 times better in person than any picture I could have taken.
Anyone have of of those Zoe Implants like in The Final Cut ?
27th Street Viaduct.
Behind me is the now Famous / Infamous 16th Street Viaduct that some dumbphuks drove over the edge of a last week running from the police and crashed on Canal Street
Further back is the now Famous / Infamous 35th Street Viaduct the some dumbphuk hanging out of the window of a car fell off the bridge "Investigators say the SUV Lynette was in was going about 40-50 mph in a 35 mph area."

That shit don't fly when a real full blown contest is in full swing.

You better get your practice in before the 10th Anniversary.

Day 18 a scenic spot... Tried all day for a shot of the Sears Tower. The tallest building in North America...But between being busy and then being cloudy I figured I grab this on the way home. Not on the route but close enough. If you ever decide to take on trip and get your kicks, I'd say you have a better than 50/50 chance of having a great meal. The rest of the time it’s just good to okay. Sorry for the blur but never have taken night shots on the phone. I'm sure there is a filter but I wanted to get home it as a long day. I swear never engage the night crew. They are lonely and love to talk... Today we had the 777 on a Sharky strap (I still like it better than the original by far and the Uncle by enough)...The Scenic shot is the Famous Dell Rheas Chicken Basket. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dell_Rhea%27s_Chicken_Basket

cd_god - you have no idea how close I was to making the 8 hour round trip today... morning calls to Europe kept me in check. Hell, they might even have an inflatable Indian jewelry store up there - for all the points! For better results on the 10-year, perhaps this day should be a holiday or weekend? And yes - that is the "classic" saguaro cactus, well spotted. I think I did good finding 2 in like 50 this morning.

Western burbs. I grew up eating in Greek Town as it was a "special place" for birthdays and such (no I'm not Greek but close) Those times are long gone. GT is but a shell of what it once was. I will go downtown for a meeting here and there but otherwise I stay on my side of town...
