It is October 20th (somewhere)
Do you know how many dates in a row end in a TH?
Day 20 of the October WRUW daily theme. Today's theme is “Wear a watch that is more than 50 years old”
You could go with the "Minimum" of 50 years.
The original theme was 7 years ago.
Maybe we should have gone with 57 years.
Or you could go with 75.
Or even 100.
Go old or go home.
It seems yesterday some had some old pocket watches.
How about some old wrist watches.

I have quite a few watches more than 50 years old. This Citizen Super Auto Dater is from September 1966.

March 69. My other +50 are waiting for service. Hmm...are you sure this isn't earlier? I thought these had the Suwa logo on the dials post 1965-66. EDIT: Nope, apparently these dials sometimes used the logo, sometimes not, even pre-1965.

Sorry, I missed the boat earlier in the week so today is my place of interest photo - the Cascade Brewery - Australia's oldest continuously operated brewery.

OE Old Elgin today. I ran the serial number of the movement many years ago and I want to say it was 1927 or 1928.
The Model T frame is still where it was last sitting.
2 1/2 years ago I said it and I guess I was right: "Not sure where the rest of it is at but I know where it is going to stay long after I am gone: right where it all is right now"

I think half of my collection is more than 50 years old. Here is a watch that’s not mine. It is my best friend’s. It was his father’s watch and he asked me to overhaul it. It runs, but not for long. I figure it is from the 1950’s.

One of my BYM watches, so sadly it meets the 50+ criteria although I wish it was nowhere near haha!

Rod - that is an awesome example. In my estimation only about 20% of these were the black / dark gray dial variety. That inspired me to pull this one out: The Seiko World Timer (MASWT), Model 6217-7000 from 1964. 50+ years, check. 57+ years check. Oh - wait! Forgot the sticker... This is Seiko’s first World Timer - a commemorative piece done for the 1964 Tokyo Olympics. This one is on original bracelet, and sourced from the original owner, making me its second caretaker. The bracket is too big for my wrist - so it doesn’t get much (read any) wrist time - but I like looking at it and knowing I have it. Side note: I would like to find someone with an original bracelet that is too small for them - and trade straight across. PM me if you are that person. I also have a dark gray dial version (but not on original bracelet): To date, I have written two articles on this watch - one is an overview of the model here: seikoworldtime.com/articles/6217-7000The other is an aid for validating authenticity: seikoworldtime.com/articles/6217-7000-ValidationOh and here are some fun ad scans from way back the: More ad and catalog scans here: seikoworldtime.com/articles/6217-Ad-Scans

Apparently I like this more than I thought I would, especially after a little DYI regulation. [emoji41]
