It is October 30th (somewhere) There's another one of those dates that ends in a TH that they were talking about. Day 30 of the October WRUW daily theme. Today's theme is "Wear an automatic watch"
The interweb ate my post the last time I tried to post this
1 more try and then I am done.
Anyone in it for the win better put the pedal to the metal (or if you have a medal show it for extra street cred) and pull out all of the stops (no pit stops) if they want to pull ahead in the last turn before the final straightaway and the checkered flag.
Shock and Awe
What is your strategy to win and your watches to surprise us all with in the final 2 days?
Feel free to use your best props, drive to the furthest ends of the earth for a scenic place or sight for your photo backdrop, and spin your best yarn for a tale.

The watch may be automatic, but the bike is decidedly manual. Mainspring must be slipping though, as no matter how much I wind it always seems to need more.

it’s an automatic - it says so on the dial. And it’s my only Seiko with a caseback secured by screws.

This one today. It’s the one I didn’t remember buying and was panicking that someone had given it to me to service and I’d forgotten who. Spent some time checking emails and forum messages and WhatsApp and such before finally working out I’d thrown it in a Buyee lot to amortise shipping (as you do) and when it had arrived it had just been put to one side and forgotten about. I’m pleased with how clean it looks to be honest and it’s one of the few watches I have that my son has expressed interest in wearing so that’s a winner.

At the risk of boring anyone... Whenever i see “scuba” on the dial my face smiles (unlike when I see the prospex logo…)

Going for the unusual today. This little guy is a Fortis creation built to commemorate a Vauxhall / Opel V6
"A unique designed deep black dial on which the hour markers are represented by the airbag sensor for 12 o'clock, the traction control sensor for 3 o'clock, the seat belt sensor for 6 o'clock, the ABS sensor for 9 o'clock , the minute hand by the 7000 rpm speedometer and hour hand by the 260 kmh tachometer. The glass bottom allows you to admire the << V6 engine>>, an ETA 2824-2, self winding automatic movement, which incorporates no fewer than 25 Jewels and has a power reserve of 40 hours. The rotor of the automatic movement it's engraved with the Opel logo !!!"
Interestingly you can snap the movement out which is in a 'sub case'. Many times I have thought about making a new chassis with a divided chapter ring to make it more readable. I can also hear the date wheel chinking away underneath and see a cap on the sweep hand stem which could become a proper sweep hand if desired. This is some day destined to be a 'Mod' watch for sure.

Here I am at the World Cup T20 (cricket) double-header Pakistan vs Netherlands, and the big one, India vs South Africa. Bitterly cold in Perth for the end of October!

This: Keeping with my diversity theme, this is another Micro Brand (now defunct), out of Singapore this time. This is the Straits Foundry “Maiden Voyage”, number 022 out of 500. It is an automatic with sapphire crystal, a clean and well executed white ceramic dial, exhibition case back and sports a Miyota 82S5 movement. Signed crown, clasp and case back. It came with a hand stitched leather strap w/ deployant clasp, plus an extra nato strap - in a (substantial) wooden display/storage box. I was able to pick this one at and deep discount here, several years ago (sometimes this site has good clearance deals like this): www.touchofmodern.com/sales/straits-foundry-7cdf9066-6fe3-4e24-95e8-8c82ab3734ba/straits-foundry-maiden-voyage-automatic-mv000a?open=1The hands are borrowed straight off my Hamilton 940 pocket watch Almost forgot to add my sticker shot:

Day 30 Wear an Automatic watch. Gonna say it’s been a day. Sunday is my only scheduled day off. I’ve been going in at least 6 days a week for nearly 30 years...29 in a row...Between straightening the garage to raking leave sit didn’t leave my sit-down time. Nursing a bad knee from a fall in April, got a Jell shot on Friday, thought I was going to cry...Dr. was wearing his Daytona again...oh and the shot hurt too. Still get a stab when I bend the knee which at this point 2 days later shouldn’t be happening, says the web. Anyway, I started out with SNZG?? Go big or go home. This challenge had me digging to the bottom of the box for something I don’t wear too often...This was my scariest purchase. I mean a 42mm watch who am I a rap star? Realizing that it’s 3rd and goal I knew it alone wouldn’t get it done with the competition around here. I went back to not the storage box but my “nice” box and came out with this guy. The picture on eBay back in the day were somethings to be desired, as well as honest and not leaving out that one of the lugs was bent 🙁 I doubt I was able to capture the blue of these hands is absolutely amazing. Reminds me of Turnbulls bluing on some of his restorations, for those who might be interested in firearms... I have had the back of before it has a neat little bump wind under the hood. I asked my old jeweler about how to straighten the lug and he advised against trying since that have a tendency to break...I keep an eye out for a donor with a shot dial but so far no go. Anyway tomorrow the holiday and can’t wait. Have a great night all.
