I was taking stock of my Seiko stable yesterday and it occurred to me that clearly I am focusing on 1980-2000s. Not consciously but certainly it reflects in my acquired watches.
Pre 80 is kinda (for me) a giant pain in the ass to get service. I do have a few beautiful chronos that from the 6139/8 era that obviously are outstanding.
The modern Seiko stuff is (again, for me) overpriced and souless.
So what am I - I'm not a vintage guy and I'm not a modern guy? I feel that those few decades is when Seiko was really capturing a lifestyle and staying in it's lane.

I consider watches from the 80's and 90's neo-vintage.

I guess 80's watches are becoming vintage pretty quickly, but I always stick to 60's and 70's Japanese watches as they were just so well made... I suspect that collecting 80's and 90's watches right now is a very good idea - before every last variant has been scrutinised by us 'vintage guys' and they have all doubled in price. 😂

You're a victim like the rest of us.
Basically anything from the 60-70's is worth grabbing.
One has to be more selective in the 80's department and past -95 it's getting quite hard.

My collection is of the 7009's, the rest I've bought to wear and enjoy, I have "amassed" a great number of Seiko's and other watches, but I wouldn't call it collection. I do dig the term Neo-Vintage though for that time period 80's-00's

It seems like people have some reasons for not just calling something 'old' but "vintage" makes something old sound ok.
A vintage Toyota Celica c.f. a vintage Model T Ford etc.

Per the internet:
Antique: a collectible item at least 100 years old.
Vintage: A culturally significant item ranging from 20-99 years in age
I would add:
Old: Any other items ranging from 20-99 years in age

Unless you're talking cars, in which case the Antique Automotive Club of America says that over 25 is an antique.
I tend to like the term "Classic" for these in-between years - or at least the ones I like, as there's a lot of garbage during those years that I wouldn't consider as classics, unless they were termed "classic garbage"

It has a few uses too like something that is new can be a 'design classic' etc.
