Yes, that is an epic deal. Let's just hope when we do finally see a Yellow dial re-edition, its not just one of these with a different dial color (which BTW retail for $700): $700 for a solar quartz seems a bit steep to my mind. Heck, I paid only a few bucks more for the recent 62MAS interpretation I bought (SPB239) with a 6R35 movement.

Another steal for sure. I am no expert on these, but am curious - are the A's in JAPAN on the dial supposed to be pointy? I don't have an R dial, but all my T dials are flat topped A's, and there is more spacing between JAPAN and 6139. I'm sure Jon (calling HiBeat) can comment but I'm 100% sure it is original and legit. It was serviced by Spencer and he went nuts over it. The watch was purchased new in Japan in the '70s and brought back to the US and given as a gift to a Diamond District jeweler. He was a "Rolex guy" who threw it in a sock drawer and never wore it.

Ya, I edited my post - it is legit - and I learned something... Here's a great T vs R dial side by side

Is there another modern example of a chronograph without a running seconds hand? It does seem an odd design by today's standards.
I suspect modern buyers would want a running seconds hand, kind of like we also want hacking and winding from the crown.

I suspect modern buyers would want a running seconds hand, kind of like we also want hacking and winding from the crown. I like my 6139s and run the sweep hand all the time, so it is like a hacking watch. If I want to use the stop watch, I reset it and use it, and only need to hack it again after. I’m ok with forgoing hacking with a watch like that. Did you know the 6138 hacks? I only own one and it needs servicing so I can’t speak of its usefulness. It would probably be easier for Seiko to re-issue a 6138. Edit: my mistake. It manually winds but doesn’t hack. Doh!

I didn't know that the 6138 hacks, I guess I never really wondered. My Speedy Pro doesn't hack and that's also not a problem for me but it does have a separate running seconds hand/register. The few times I have actually used a chronograph to time something, I am happy it wasn't also standing in for a seconds hand for the actual time, so when I'm done I don't feel like I need to resync it all up.
If well executed and subtle, I think I could be sold on either a separate running seconds register/hand at 9-o'clock on a modern reinterpretation - or perhaps changing the minute counter at 6-oclock from 30 to 60, and adding a 2nd hand there for the running seconds, maybe in black and behind the minute counter - subtle but useful. That would probably mean an expensive new movement design though.

Can any of the mechaquartz be rendered as a single register? I really don't know enough about the range to answer but I would be way more interested in a sub $400 mecha with correct aesthetics than anything with their solar movements.

If it's not mechanical they shouldn't do it at all
