Today is the last day I'll be wearing the Citizen 4-720393Y Leopard Super Beat 8 as it completes a 7 day x 24 hour trial of it's time keeping accuracy. I don't normally do this but this watch seems to be special and warranted a proper investigation. At the moment it's 159 hours into a 168 hour test (95% done) and over the last 36 hours it's wandered into a time gain mode confirming my desire to mess with it and bump it up 1 second is a bad idea. Leave it alone! It's averring -0.694 sec/day which is better than a cheap quartz watch or two in my collection!!!
Sure enough a 6 position test over 28 minutes of operation this morning shows an average loss of -0.8sec/day
It seems to have a pension for gaining time in the 9 high position which would be my arm hanging down.

That is quite a looker there earthphase! What model is it? Is that a Chinese day wheel?
------------------
And for the record my Citizen 4-720393Y Leopard Super Beat 8 hit the 7 day mark at 3pm this afternoon at -4.5 seconds since I set it a week ago. That's an average daily rate of -0.643 sec/day
To put that into perspective, if I did nothing but wear this watch 24/7 for a year, it would loose 3:54 minutes.
Yeah, I'm saying I have on my wrist a cheap Citizen mechanical watch good to less than 4 minutes per year.
Lets frame that with respect to normal specifications for average over the counter mechanical watches rated at +/-15 sec/day. Letting one of those ride along for a year without correction you'd find it to have gained or lost over 90 minutes.
This is a freak accident of good fortune!!! I had little to do with it other than cleaning it up like I do with all of my watches.
Regardless, I am super stoked!

That is a good looking watch. I almost bought a Citizen Titanium diver that looked very similar when I was in the Caribbean. I ended up with another Seiko instead but I was VERY tempted and the price was VERY good for a Ti automatic watch.

I believe it is Chinese. Chinese / English day wheel. Reference NY0120-01x. Reminds me of the fun we used to have with SKX. Also has a 62mas vibe from when the 62mas was a tool and not a $4k watch on rubber.

In the Ozarks along the Mulberry river. Once again no cell coverage and the coyotes sat on the ridges howling much of the night. Excellent final night camping.
