Saw a watch at everyone's favorite honey holes... Figured it was going to go higher but because they listed by Serial number not reference number I kept it on my watch list n case...I'd love to add one to the collection one day. Timing wasn't right holidays and all to get into a bidding war...45 bids total only four on the last day, look like one guy tried to snipe and failed. It sold for $416 looks very real and in nice shape to me. eBay prices look like this would have been a recent high water mark, but given it's originality? What do you guys think? Too much? About right? Steal of the year?

I did not see that listing, nice spot !
$416 + sales tax to get it home is no bargain. Is it market price fair? I guess. Figure new crystal he's pushing $475 and the insert is original but shows more wear than I'd like to see at that price point. And is it a solid runner or in need of a service soon?

Great dial and handset. Rob Yes for sure and that is why I would figure it is market price.

There is a much better one for sale now on TOF that needs nothing, great dial and hand set, and very well preserved insert for less than the OPs example here.

It can come with the original GL831 strap that has been cleaned and reconditioned, for no added cost ( if it's my 7049 we're talking about, perhaps not, since it's not $200 more) Rob PS. It's now on a GL831, that's soft and pliable

I was trying to compare the OPs original thread starter watch to one for sale on TOF - and yes turns out that actually is scubarob99's listing! The subject 6309 will cost the new owner close to $500 with new crystal all-in with sales tax and shipping. I think the bezel wear makes that a bit steep. Shown on left below. Meanwhile Rob's is $420 all-in on an original GL831 to boot ! Shown on right below. So I do not think the original topic watch was a missed opportunity to regret missing out.

I'm not sure I know enough still about the "would like to own one day, references, b/c they are iconic, and every collection needs one". I will have to go find scubarob99 vs. the one I did see, in what I assumed was TOF? As you can see $590. I thought that even a new strap or reconditioned wouldn't carry the same value, as an original to the watch strap even if it wasn't too flexible. Swap it with a wearable one on the occasions you do decide to wear it? I also thought the Suwa symbol on the dial was also more desirable for some reason? As you say HiBeat this was more likely the market price no more no less. Now I saw a couple of high-end Pouge's listed here recently that I have my eye on! Just don't hope I over spend with exchange rate what it is!

The 'reconditioned' strap is original to the watch- whenever I get a watch with an original GL831, it gets a hot water bath and scrubbing, rub petroleum or oil it, let it soak in, dry, and then it goes into a marked zip lock bag Rob

Could it be the the HK dials are less desirable?

Yup. Us old timers will know what this means. A reference to another forum that many of us frequented that sort of went in a different direction that therefore spawned this great board!

Speaking of steals of the year, prices seem to be all over the place these days for vintage divers (and chronos). I lost out on this 7049 recently, looks like a steal for the condition, hope someone here got it: www.ebay.com/itm/315018668761
