Prices seem to be all over the place these days for vintage divers (and chronos), I lost out on this 7049 recently, looks like a steal for the condition, hope someone here got it: www.ebay.com/itm/315018668761
Nice watch but how was that a 'steal' when we have one here for sale at the same price delivered that no one is buying ?
I like the hands on it but they are clearly new and not original to the watch.

Anything is possible with a watch this old, but you have to look at all the signs. It's been known that '77 - early '78 6306/6309's have lume on handsets that are whiter than the lume on the dials (yellow), so I can see why you think the handset is new, buts it's actually what this watch should look like and is consistent with my other '77 6309-7049 and '77 6306-7001. Look at the condition of the dial, the bezel insert, case, the case back with it's blue sticker remnants still there, how clean the movement looks - all these elements look consistently in very nice (original) shape. Oh - and it's from early '77 which I like best. I'd be willing to bet the selling price it's all original, but I've been wrong before

The dial and insert are damn near perfect Rob

Thank you for the coloring education. Amazing in depth knowledge! No expert, that's for sure, Jon - just sharing what I look for based on pictures and what I've learned from others as "correct" on great forums like WS and TOF.

Maybe I am the last guy on the board to realize this but it is really interesting !
Here is my May 1977 6306-7001. I always thought the hands must have been replaced given the lume on the hour markers being more yellowed and the hands much less so. Maybe they could be original and this could explain it. Or they are aftermarket or even the OEM reissue hands for the 6309s from Seiko maybe 10 years ago. Not sure.
