Took my shoes to a shoe maker (good reviews, customer experience and recommendation from a friend) and paid 250€ for them to repair my shoes (re-soling, other repairs etc.), so that I could get another 7 years of use out of them (well built, full leather boots, not cheap crap). Year later they started to disintegrate and here I am learning how to repair shoes, as it was my second time that shoe maker has ruined my shoes. I decided "no more". I removed the old glue (contact adhesive they had used seemed to be cheap, and most likely they had not let it dry enough and beaten it thoroughly), applied proper stuff, dried it proper before making the contact and beat it. Now it's time for stitching, which was also poorly done. I'm certain I'll get atleast 7 years after this repair. After stitching I'll apply the sole and I'm good to go. Money well spent, as I'll save it in the future and learn a new skill.

trilo I admire your decision to take matters into your own hands and do a better job than the 'professional' did. I can't remember having shoes repaired, and I think these days where everything gets thrown away and replaced it's amazing repair is even considered. I think it's awesome, and of course now those shoes have even more stories to tell
I purchased a few vintage Russian watches from a Ukrainian ebay seller over the weekend so my favorite Slava 2427 caught my eye after getting a notification of shipment this morning.

russtmurray I have on going project. It's just damn hard to find a good and easy to deal with source for vegetable tanned leather here in Finland. inboost it's indeed rare to have things lasting. I got these boots for big reduce. Original price is around 300€, but I bought them from a guy who had walked 20 km with them and then ditched them, as they were uncomfortable. My theory is, that he had no idea that there's a break in period for full leather boots. Anyway, I used to buy 120€ boots, which would last me 2 years of heavy use. After these boots I have decided to splurge atleast around 300€ on new boots next time I need to buy a pair. Yes, it's big investment (atleast for me), but they will be the same amount of money or less in the end than the cheap boots, they are most likely comfortable and most of all, it means less waste.

Nice job trilo. I do recall seeing shoe repair shops when I lived in Boston, but that was a while ago and I think that the main repair shop I remember got bulldozed when they tore the Garden down. Finding a good repair shop for anything is a challenge nowadays.
This just arrived yesterday afternoon. It would be nice to replace the crystal at some point, but they are unobtainium, so I may have to live with the microscratches. The dial is amazing - the watch is nicknamed "Baby Morpho" (with the 3883-7000 Superior being the full quartz Morpho). The dial changes colors dramatically depending on how the light hits it as the watch is rotated, from blue to a rich purple, with gradations between the colors as well. I wish I could capture it in pictures. Anyway, glad to have finally added a 3803-7080 - and if you know where I can find a NOS crystal for it, let me know.

A distant cousin of the Kamen Rider, a 5126-8100 on the wrist today. Dating from 1968, this movement uses the swiss style reverser wheels instead of the Seiko magic lever. The most amazing yellowed lume I've ever had hands on! It changes colour from a lemon yellow to golden brown depending on the light.

Did the bezel myself, filled the markers with black nail paint. Final regulation after putting it together.

trilo I have been using cobbler on Museokatu and quality has been very good I need to go and check it out. Thanks for the tip! EDIT: Except that I just said I would not do it no more I think I'm better of doing it myself. But thanks for the tip anyhow.
