I was thinking about selling down my ridiculous watch collection, and I think I am going to start a lot of them like this:
"Very unpopular watch no one bought rare, hard to find watch for sale!!"

I'm a sucker for a laugh and recall being seriously interested in a total jalopy of a car because the seller wrote such a good ad for it. It was hilarious but genuine, clearly outlining all of the troubles with a humors note. So I'd venture your plan could work!

Funny…I like it. I saw an ad the other day where the person just went off about the condition of the car he was selling.

Knowing a little of your watch collection, there's bound to be some obscure and wonderful stuff, Thomas. Your idea makes me think about the overuse of "rare" in watch sales. Rare and desirable don't always coincide - sometimes there is a reason no one bought it in 1970. Not that that would apply to any of yours, Thomas 😃

What about the watch collecting disease? Actually I'm not sure it's particularly desirable affliction either. So when are you going to start posting your watches Thomas ? I seem to recall seeing some beauts of yours when I've been digging through older threads.

The word that really turns me off is 'Scarce' - it seems like such a low-brow bogus claim wherever I see it used. I'd stay away from using that one in your ads.
Seems like we have a bunch of buyers lined up at the starting line waiting for the flag to drop Thomas! I bet you're going to rake it in regardless of what you write

Certainly low financial impact compared to cars (and less space. Intensive). I know personally know some collectors that got it bad with higher end stuff and I shudder to think how much they have spent.

Some of the prices I see pristine pre-quartz Grand Seiko references go for are eye-watering. Even some of the particularly nice early quartz, in gold, platinum, palladium, etc. make me gulp when I see the prices (and then I start scheming on how I can get my hands on them). And here, we're only talking five figures. The six figure (and more) watches are an entirely different animal.

I know personally know some collectors that got it bad with higher end stuff and I shudder to think how much they have spent. I once sold a pocket watch made for vision impaired people to a guy, who said he had over 300 wall clocks. He said he had to switch to pocket watches because he was running out of space, even though his wife had suggested to attach them on the ceiling as it's all empty, unused space. Now the reason why he had moved on to pocket watches instead of wrist watches, was that his other eye was blind (I saw it, it was indeed comoletely gone) and by his own words the other eye had only 4% of its vision left. He said that pocket watches are large enough for him to work with (repair), which he does with a super magnifier and with a help of personal assistant. And the reason why he needed personal assistant was that both of his legs were amputated (he told the story) and only the other one had a prosthesis (municipal wasn't able to provide another prosthesis). He then told that he had WWII era prosthesis coming from Ebay and he was planning to modify it for himself. His plan was to go and show it to the head of municipal once it was ready. We didn't get to chat too long, as he was in a hurry to do some other business and so he wheeled away I wouldn't have believed it if I hadn't seen the guy in person So be brave and start tinkering!
