The visit to the Grand Seiko Shizukuishi Studio in northern Honshu/Japan was special. The surrounding countryside is indeed an important influencer of the design of the dials, and the structure itself was exceptional with no horizontal beams. The staff were reportedly 50/50 men and women, and there is an interesting human resource system in which senior staff are required to mentor at least two staff each year, and the award of gold, silver and bronze master craftsmen/women needs to be re-earned every two years— not automatically retained! A special visit!

Wow that is so wonderful. You made a true 'bucket list' experience for many of us here ! Congratulations.
Were you allowed to take any photos inside?
Envious for you !

Yes, our small group of 5 (mainly young Asian Americans) were allowed to to take photos but no videos. The tour guide, Inoue-san, was very helpful, knowledgeable and spoke English well (ie had spent time in a working holiday in Sydney, Australia) and now returned home for good skiing and family).
