My wife and daughters were going to Denver on 4/9 for our son's wedding. We had an 8:00AM flight so we were in Newark Airport pretty early. I decided to use the men's room before boarding so as to avoid having to use the plane's rest room. After taking care of business, I washed my hands, dried them and went back to the gate. As I sat down next to my daughter, I put my left wrist on my leg and felt the watch bracelet go slack. YIKES!!!!!! I looked down and the bracelet had separated at the link next to the clasp. My first thought was "oh man . . . am I lucky!" I shuddered to think what could have happened if the link let go when I was in the rest room. The watch would have hit the hard tile floor and would most certainly have left marks.
That being said, can anyone here let me know what type of pin the Monster bracelet uses? I'm assuming that it's the dreaded "pin and collar" set up.
Also, once I identify the correct parts to fix the bracelet, I'll need to identify where I can buy these parts.
Thanks very much in advance!
Bob

Yup it's the Seiko pin and collar. I believe generic replacements are available on Cousins and Seiko OEM sets aren't too expensive either.

Can I buy retail from Seiko? I am really close to the Mahwah NJ Service Center but AFAIK, they closed the "open to the public" space many years ago. Also, do you know if the pin and collar would be available in black? I think a SS pin would stick out like a sore thumb.

Can you borrow one from an extra link? The stock monster bracelet is quite long. I don't know about the black pin. I guess you could email Seiko.

Bob there's a very good chance I have the black pin and collar. I have to find time to work out the details, a lot going on here, but give me a few days. Is that the SRP583? Or the full case back 4R36-XXXX ? Congratulations on your son's wedding! Hopefully the day was perfect aside from the Monster bracelet - and assuming you brought another watch

Thank you so much for offering to see if you have any of these pins! Take your time in seeing if you have any. I'm not in a rush (I think I have a enough watches to keep me busy!) so whenever you can get around to it. Our son's wedding was great and the weather was perfect! Beautiful, sunny 70 degree day. Very nice for April in Colorado! Of course I brought other watches. See yesterdays WRUW post for the details!

Congrats, Bob! Colorado wedding sounds like a perfect setting Rob Thanks Rob. He lives in Denver. Moved there 6 or so years ago for business. Met his wife there. Wedding was about 15 minutes outside of Bouder. Amazing scenery.

Wonder how this happened? Have the Monster 1st gen. orange monster, and that solid bracelet is so very comfortable. The pin + collar must have not been installed correctly. P&C is my favorite system BTW. It's a pain to size, but when properly installed, should last a lifetime (unlike screws, and regular pins). On another note, I think you are very lucky the watch did not fall while in the men's restroom inside the....that would an even harder operation to fix .

If not, no big deal. I can call Seiko and order them. Please LMK.

So . . . . I went to my basement to see if I had a spare pin and collar for this watch.
To my surprise, I did find a spare link in the box. Link and pin, but no collar.
This leads me to believe that the idiot who sized the watch when we bought it didn't put the collar on the end of the pin. I guess I'm REALLY blessed that the pin stayed in the bracelet as long as it did AND that the bracelet didn't fall apart at an inopportune time and damage the watch.
The quest to get this watch back on the wrist continues. It's a simple thing and it should be taken care of soon.
