Hey Len, this leather strap looks like my Asian friend dealer's home made straps. Spring Break here, 5°C, I have to go at work for computer maintenance, they closed the main road without warning, I have to make a 10km detour and, of course, everyone else takes the same route as me.

Hey Len , this leather strap looks like my Asian friend dealer's home made straps. Strap is actually from CNS, with less than 8 USD / piece....

Plus a project in hand. It's missing all hands, one winder and the case back which acts as the bell. So in short I need another BB for the winder and back at least...it's never ending this tinkering.

About 10C this AM, which is kind of cold compared to the past few weeks, but historically pretty normal. Of course it got cooler because I've started to move the plants out.

My Great Grandfather's well worn pocket watch gifted to him on October 29th, 1880! This 144 year old piece is powered by a cool contraption calles a Fusee Chain drive which is simply brilliant! It was given to me when I was young and I think I broke it trying to understand it's function. Fast Forward 40 years and I repaired what I had done, serviced and cleaned it, and brought it back to life.

What a great bit of family history and what a great story! Lovely to hear you were able to get it back running Thanks twhp101 ! I have to say that servicing it had some ups and downs. I bent a lot of stuff in the escapement and hurt the hairspring as a child. I was able to get it all straightened out and back in place (much of it is fastened with cross-pins instead of screws!) but the hairspring was damaged badly and ended up snapping where it was pinned to the regulator. I reshaped the tail end and fitted it up, but it now runs irreparably fast, gaining between 80 to 120 seconds a day depending on position. There is a lot of wear, but it's clean and well lubricated now and good for light duty WRUW parades. The amazing part is that when I cleaned it I found sand in it. Why? My Great Grandfather was a stone mason to the Rookwood General Cemetery in NSW Australia and the family business is still running strong to this day. I'm certain the pinkish colored grains belonged to headstones and other elaborate decorative carvings he was known for. How's that for the sands of time?
