Had a strap give up the ghost today in the morning at work. By lunch the awkward naked feel of my wrist was driving me nuts. Walked over to William crow jewelers to see if they had a suitable strap or if not, at least one cheap enough to make it through day. They did. As I was paying, I looked through the glass case he was writing out a receipt on. Wow, a selection of decent Seikos! The first one to catch my eye was the model in the op's post. They had a brownish dial with a brownish bronze ish case and bracelet. Tried it on. The color wasn't to my taste but had a nice feel and size on my 7 1/2 inch wrist. Then I saw the green dial with ss case and bracelet. Tried that on too. Nice! The bracelet is lighter than it looks similar to a folded oyster bracelet. As he was putting them away, I saw the same with ss case and bracelet with the red dial. It is a bright red. Not sure I could pull it off but it definitely popped. Forgive my great faux pas but I did not even have my phone with me for pics. But you may understand my manic need to get my poor watch off of my desk and back on the wrist....

Hmm, not the nicest movement but I do love the throwback style.

They have the SNKN03 (blue) 05 (purple) and 07 (gray) dialed watches out as well (also retro looking).

So, the SNKN01 came in today, and while I was pleasantly surprised by overall size and unexpected lug size( I didn't do much research) looks to be 22mm. The dial is more shimmery than I expected, and the hands are virtually impossible to see, I do like the case shape and overall feel on the wrist. strap , although robust , has two keepers, one sawn in next to the buckle, making it very difficult to thread the strap thru.
Rob
Correction: lug size is 24mm, greatly limits my hopes for slapping a razor on this boy.

This was my main gripe with the SCEB Bullhead re-issue watches too. I wonder what's happening to the design guys at Seiko? Visible hands and a very legible dial should not be that hard to execute given the company's long history in watchmaking.

Well dammit, I went ahead and did it too. I liked the green since the first time I saw it, so that's the one I chose. SNKM97. And oh yeah it's true... not real good legibilty, but I knew that going in. I'm thinking these hands need lumed. Besides that, really like the style. First "new" Seiko I've liked enough to go ahead and buy in awhile.

I was just thinking, maybe a good mod for these would be a vintage handset or luming the hands?

Yes! If they only asked the only people who would have made this watch a homerun! Keep the ideas coming! Lol

Reviving this old thread, looks like there are more from the Recraft series I didn't see before (at least on the US site), and quite a few models with lumed hands now: seikousa.com/collections/recraft/I'm partial to the SNKN45, does anyone have this watch here?

I am lost as to why everybody seems to like these. They are so far down on my Seiko list that I am wondering what I am missing. I think that if they didn't have the "recraft" in the name no one would have even noticed.

Imagine, taking old stock 7S26s on the shelf, making very respectable vintage homage cases, and asking nearly SARB money. Seiko Marketing genius - except my money is spent on real vintage.
Maybe a rotating inner bezel would have hooked me, but even then on fleabay in a year or so when the original owners got tired of them.

There already seem to be a few popping up on the forums for sale (using WatchRecon to search) for good used prices ($125US for very lightly worn examples) so it's not too much to try one out. I don't need one but the funky 70s vibe without the hassle of vintage service, parts and water resistance issues, is attractive. I've got plenty of vintage to wear so I guess I'll only grab one if a great deal pops up. If I'd been into watches when the 90s rally diver reissues were available I would have snagged one for sure.
