Hi,
I have a Citizen Diver (NY0040) and would like to do some mod on it... I want to do the following:
- Change the crystal to a dome shaped crystal - change the dial to only show date (no day)
It's just extremely low AM supplies of Citizen watches compare to Seiko... I've been going through forums and the web and there's just aren't a whole lot of options... So far I only saw 1 aftermarket dial for the Citizen diver, and I tried using an aftermarket dial for Seiko and it didn't fit right... Any options for me??? Right now I'm thinking swapping a Eco-Drive dial to the automatic, but that's like way too expensive in my opinion...

Hi Jack, to Wrist Sushi! You will probably find that the Eco-Drive dials are as problematic as the Seiko ones as far as fit goes. The other problem with Eco-Drive dials is that they also incorporate the solar cell that gathers light and changes it to electricity. Probably not even an option. You should look at any of the older Citizens that came with an 8200 or 82xx movement as these will likely have the same size of dial. Sadly there are very few Citizen date only models so that won't give you many options. If this were me, I would find a dial that has the date only window and adapt it to the NY0040. This will require choosing a dial with as close as possible, the same diameter. If it is a fraction smaller; that's good. If it's a fraction bigger then there will be some work required to reduce the diameter. This will require a steady hand, some good files and a lot of patience. Other than that, I really don't have anything else to suggest. Is the the 'underpants marker' at 12 o'clock that has you wanting to mod the watch?

Hi,
Thanks for the advice. Yes that's the one I want to mod.
I did some mod on it already. Changed out the hands, and put in a new miyota movement (got the one without the day wheel). I also got a seiko dial that fits pretty close but the date window just looks off. So I just put a piece of black tape to cover the day wheel window.
I also managed to ding up the crystal too... That's why I'm thinking about changing the crystal to a dome shaped one. But no luck finding one...
I wasn't able to come across any older versions of 82xx divers that only has a day window, or anyone who carry citizen domed crystal... If there is one out there or maybe custom sizes, that will be awesome.

Hi. There is a fake citizen Eagle divers watch which is date only. I suspect it has same size dial and doesn't wear underpants. The older divers watches without the undies are probably too expensive for this project as you probably would not get a nos dial and would have to butcher a good one. The current titanium version of citizens basic diver has a better top index but has a day wheel.
Cheers Phil

Hi Phil,
Do you have pictures of a fake eagle diver? I haven't seen any...

Yeah somewhere. It is a watch that was to be sent to you until I found its origins. Nice looking thing but not what I paid for. Got refund on both of them. Not a story for the masses. Cheers Phil
