The yen is in the tank, so now's the time to buy JDM! Catching up on the shogun. Obviously been out for several years but the previously strong yen put it out of reach for me. But not now. Perpetually compared to the Sumo when there's no comparison as far as I'm concerned. It a totally different watch. Yes its considerably more expensive than the sumo but you're paying a premium for the Diashield coated titanium. To me titanium watches are "delighters" where I don't necessarily go out of my way for it, but if its present at the right price then well, great. The diashield supposedly protects from scratches and from the patina so the shogun looks like steel. you wouldn't even notice the difference until you picked it up. traditional dial layout. symmetrical 3 oclock crown which I favor over the 4 oclock. simple bezel. slightly domed crystal. drilled lugs. titanium case is mostly brushed with just a sliver of a polished edge on the shoulder and crown guard. the milling on the case is really impressive with sharply detailed edges at each interface. If you've ever seen the SARB021 model the design is identical, but just slightly larger. Achieving these edges on titanium is very impressive due to the hardness. wears just about the same as the traditional 42mm seiko case but it does have longer lugs. the shogun also comes with its own strap. I was trying to think of other seiko divers that come with both bracelet and its own strap. I think its limited to the mm300 and one of the tunas. any others? unfortunately the shogun strap is the uncomfortable polyureathane so I don't know how much I'll wear it, but it looks cool.

I got mine this week and its a great watch, a wearer too. After the similarly sized Sumo, the Shogun is light and comfortable. Plus the looks just get better the more you look at it. I am happy

I'm not much for the new stuff, but that one looks to be a winner!

Thanks for the comparison shot. Before seeing that, I was under the impression that the "Shogun" was much larger (more "Sumo-sized"). I'm considering adding one to the collection.

I like how Seiko matched the major index markers to the style of the Monster hands 7dfe79adc2f0

Love that watch! What do they go for in US$ these days? I got it for a little over 800 US including delivery to the US. I messaged ebay seller ibuyjp for a direct deal. The seller's name is Ian and he is an american guy with a business in Japan so his english is perfect. You can find them for under 800 on rakeuten which I was considering, but I don't have any experience with that format and wasn't completely comfortable with a buy at this price.

Myles yeah I was also concerned about the size too. I had tried the sumo and hated it immediately because of the size and proportions all seemed off to me. it basically wears like a 7548/SKX007, but with longer lugs. Also the end links on the bracelet add a mm or two to the tip to tip length. Dimensions Crystal 31mm Bezel 42mm case 2-8 oclock 44mm case including crown 47mm lug width 22mm lug to lug 51mm

I like how Seiko matched the major index markers to the style of the Monster hands 7dfe79adc2f0 that's right. I forgot about the monster hands. I havent had a monster in years so I think I might have lost my reference but I don't get any monster recollections with these hands. they are chromed and look nice. you're right the markers resemble the hand shape.

Thanks John . . . . it's a great looking watch but that price is still out of my budget. Can't wait to see pics . . .

Late congrats, I hope to pick one of these up soon and give it a whirl.
Oh and you are right about the Shogun rubber strap, it has to be one of the worst straps I have ever owned hands down.
