The is the first Seiko watch that I ever bought...a 5Y23- 8A69...I bought it at a J.C. Penney store in Va. Beach, Va. in the mid-1980's. It has been stored in various locations over the years (dresser drawer, desk drawer, etc.). For the last eight years or so it's been sitting in one of my "auxiliary" watch boxes....it's been dead for at least ten years or so....needed a new battery and I just never got around to it. The back was a bear to get off....but with the help of a new acquired holder and Jaxa-style case tool I finally got it off (thanks for the help guys!)....it was actually very clean on the inside....I put a new battery in and it fired right up....I ran the bracelet through my ultrasonic cleaner and got an unbelievable amount of crud out of it. It's been running for two days now with no problems....even the lume still glows pretty bright!...is it a new favorite?...not really and these sell for pretty much next to nothing these days....but it's 30+ years old and brings back some memories of home....or what was home at one time anyway. Here's a photo of me wearing it in the 80's: This is today:

That's awesome, glad you finally brought it back to life!
And to have an old pic of you wearing it, is a huge bonus!

, and it is very clean. Great looking and you still got it now. :winner: my first watch was a Pocket watch my Dad found and gave it to me one of those Westclox ones, with a D6 Caterpillar insignia on it too. Might have been a Scotty. Well that was in 1958 , man that was a long time ago.

Ah the '80's.
We WIS talk about them like the Jurassic period. Its only when you see photos that you remember that some of us were actually there!!!!
Great watch and an even better back story.

Very cool . . . nice to get an old friend back on the wrist. I think that style was Seiko's homage to Rolex . . . .
Congrats on getting that beauty back in fighting shape!
