I'm calling this the Poor Man's 62MAS because it has the same dial finish and hands, but doesn't have the bezel and phat crown. These are the Daini 7625 movement and are in the Sportsmatic line. I'm not sure where it came from but I found it in my pile of stuff to evaluate. It either came from Jonathon's estate or a junk bag I purchased not too long ago. Anyway I put it up because they are just nice and a few of you might want to grab one. You can get them at a reasonable price.

These 7625s are cool, along with their identical 6619-powered twin brothers. The nice thing about them is that they are quite large for a 1960s dress watch. Most, unfortunately, are purchased and harvested for their 62MAS/6105 hands. I love 'em! I got this one from Goodwill a year or so ago for lunch money... One thing I have noticed about all versions of this model is the splotchy, inconsistent lume. While Seiko is now known for efficient automated production, it is my opinion that the lume on these was applied by hand back in the mid-1960s.

I've got the same one. The lume is damaged a bit from the minute hand hitting the hour hand. It must have come from poorly placing the hands during it's last service...which was probably 20+ years ago. Also I've noticed some marks on the dial. On close inspection with my loupe, it looks just like fungus on a camera lens. Has anybody else noticed this happening?

These are definitely ones to be added to collections. I have the 6119 equivalent... Sadly this one is a fake. It was originally a 6119 but some hack dropped an AS1916 movement in it and doctored the dial.

This here's what I call the Poor Man's 62MAS: I have one of these in practically perfect condition ... the only issue is the new, original crystal I bought for it doesn't allow the bezel to clip into place (by about 0.1mm or so, the bezel hits the bevel on the crystal) .. I think the solution is sanding down the bottom edge of the crystal where it touches the case, of course haven't had time to do this yet! they are very lovely watches not so much a poor man's option any more (but still cost less than a 62MAS)

At first I was going to say someone did a number on repainting the minute track on that one with fat and skinny lines. Then I noticed 2,3 and 7,8 markers are fat and the 1,4 and 6,9 markers are all skinny.

Bloody annoying as it has a bulls eye magnifier. I took out the crystal and ran it's bottom edge over some 1200 grit sand paper a few times and it went back in with a big click and has been perfect ever since.

Great news, as I can polish the scratches out of the one I'll be getting tomorrow - Bezel and everything looks really good, but the crystal is scratched. PolyWatch to the rescue!
