After three long years of waiting, searching and missing many opportunities, I have finally been able to acquire my dream watches, the 6138 3002 and 3000.
The first two times I tried to buy these models were poorly informed novice buys from Southeast Asia on the 'bay, or HHCs. Needless to say they were very disappointing. My third attempt lead me to a 3002 with a beautiful clean dial and recently serviced movement, with a grossly overpolished case though. I later managed to source an untouched case for this, which left me satisfied for the moment.
However, while browsing that lovely auction site as usual the other day, I stumbled upon a listing for two original-owner 6138s, 3000 and 3002. After asking the seller all my questions to confirm its authenticity, I decided to pull the trigger and waited patiently to see if I had made the right choice. Two days later and I'm finally the proud owner of two beautiful, unmolested 6138 Jumbos. Running great and keeping great time, though I ought to have them serviced some time later this year to be safe. Excellent teal dials and original Stelux bracelets, which have almost no stretching and are like new. Checked out the movements and they are absolutely pristine. I have a NOS crystal which I'll have installed on the 3000 in a couple of days.
I had pretty much given up hope on eBay to find authentic watches, but thankfully this proved me wrong. I do think I've used up all my eBay luck though, so I'll be staying away for a while . The seller was definitely the best I've ever dealt with. Took the time to answer all my questions and provided even more info than I had asked for. It was truly a rare experience and I was even given a complete history of the watches!
Apologies for such a long post, but I'm just excited and wanted to share. Enough talk, here are some unfortunately crappy pictures because all I have is a phone camera.
