That would have to be in $ worth of sales and not overall production.
There is no way Patek "produces" as many watches yearly as Seiko does.

The headline over the figures says, " Largest Global Watch Manufacturers, by percentage of market share". I'm not sure if they're counting only complete watches, or components as well. Also not sure if that's by dollar-value or by piece; the article doesn't say. I'm guessing it's by gross sales (dollar value).
And it's not from the Wall Street Journal, but from Canada's National Post newspaper. I get both, and mixed up the names when I was reporting this. Sorry.

Notice they didn't have the balls to list China as 'others'. The Chinese watch production definitely overshadows any of the others.

Well by these numbers a Casio is more exclusive than a Rolex. Very cool.

Hi. Can only be $ amount if true. Forget the source but recently saw stats showing Citizen/Miyota/Bulova as being the largest. It did notice the rise of Chinese items but was unable to find reliable statistics on number manufactured and how they were eventually branded. The other major player is Ricoh who rarely use their own brand anymore but produce millions for cheap brands and also are a major manufacturer of industrial watchmaking machinery.
Cheers Phil

Seiko, more exclusive than a Rolex. well...even without the numbers that is a given as it takes a more discriminating horologic palate to appreciate Seiko (at least the good Seiko, not the vast sea of unremarkable North America department store Seiko...).

Definitely dollars. That's the definition of Market Share. Dollars income for a company vs total consumer spend in the given Market

Yeah, the mall Seikos really sully Seikos reputation among non-WIS, IMO. I guess just about any watch bought in a mall or department store these days is bound to be pretty crappy; I haven't seen a decent one yet. Also, aren't a lot of Fossils made with Seiko movements?
