Thought it was worth warning new Seiko buyers about these dials that are appearing on the market for the 6139-600x in both blue and yellow. I've had a blue resist in my hands within the past week to service for a guy who brought it on evilBay that was a aftermarket dial. He was so gutted he told me to scrap the watch for spares. I actually fitted a scrap but correct dial I had and now he is over the moon with the watch. Lucky for him I do not build watches out of parts and throw away good dials if the rest of the watch is wrong or beyond saving. Now I see another aftermarket resist dial but this one is more obvious. First off the minute marker hand should be a 'tear drop' shape not straight but you often see this done even on honest watches. The main thing is the 5 minute markers. The lume to chrome is not only upside down it's too large in that the chrome should be a small bit at the top of the marker and the lume should be towards the center and long. Also the pattern of the dial surface in the sub dial is too course. Buyer beware.

Great info Tony.
Aren't we fortunate the counterfeiters aren't as Persnickety as us collectors when it comes to details?

Also note the day/date frame does not fit the window.
I often wonder why after all the bother of tooling, arranging suppliers etc why would you not make sure the font and other details are correct? Its not as though the quality over all is bad. 'That will do' is great for WIS and helps avoid fakes.

Also, no lume in the inner tachy ring and wrong hands.

Great info, Tony...thank you! The price on the 6139's, has increased immensely. I guess that's when the fakes, start coming out of the woodwork.

Thank you for creating this thread Tony.
Too, one of the easiest "tells" of an AM dial for me is that the sub-register looks like a record album with all those grooves (kids, ask your parents what a record album is) whereas on an original dial the sub-register is smooth.

Thanks Tony. I'm rebuilding one right now and I like my original black dial but I also have my eyes out for a correct replacement dial because it, well, shows it's age.
I found a judicious use of a very very little waxing brought back the blackness to the dial without any sort of sheen. I personally really like it a lot more now that I've done this. It was going gray and looked a bit ratty buy honest old.

Good catch! Do you have a picture of an authentic dial that could be added for comparison? To the untrained eye like mine, this looks like a very nice looking Pogue. Of course, folks like me are the target audience for a counterfeit.

If you are unsure of a watch, post a picture and ask for help before you buy.

I'm with dasher on the grooved sub dial giveaway, it looks hideous and stands out a mile, There are still far too many originals floating about to ever consider putting one of those on a watch,
