When I was a little kid, we were only 3 brothers then, and my older brother had his favorite Cowboy--Gene Autrey. My favorite was... who else, the Lone Ranger.... and my younger brother's was Roy Rogers... so there we were... each one fighting, saying that his favorite Cowboy could clobber the otherĀ“s a$$... Now I look with sorrow at the Lone Ranger who was never alone, he was always with his buddy Tonto. Was the Ranger Gay? Anyhow, the word Tonto in Spanish means Dumb or Stupid. As soon as I can, I will go to see the new film but the "native American" (to be politically correct), Johnny Depp looks like they made him up in a pig sty, with the real thing. His aroma for sure is akin to hydrogen sulfide. maybe he is due for a whole tube of original Old Spice.

He really was but when I was around 6 or 7 he was not on TV much and was not very popular... but I really agree with you, this was the MAN. I salute Audie Murphy.

I'm sure the members from Texas would in particular would love to see them Well Jason I would love to accommodate you in this regard but since I stopped using party as a verb several years ago, I won't be heading off to catch the Stampede this year. It's quite the spectacle and the fact they've pulled it off this year is even more amazing, given the flood that ravaged the city just about two weeks ago. The cowboy spirit in this city is a riot and while it may seem hokey to some, it's a blast nonetheless. Aside from the chuck wagon races perhaps it's the bull-riding that is the main attraction. Problem is, you have to wait through all other events before you see the cowboys get launched and that lasts for about 40 minutes. Last year I went to Eureka, MT to witness "The Bull Thing" which is nothing but...you guessed it, bull riding. $12 for a ticket, $10 for a 6-pack of Bud and watching man vs beast for two hours is top value in my book. Here's a a couple of snaps;

My introduction to tv cowboys was along time ago and my first exposure was to Tom Mix. Hwas one of the original good guy cowboy stars. He wore the tall style hat like the real cowboys. Most of the later tv cowboy heros wore the low crown style , white hats. The bad guys nearly always wore the black hats. The poor injuns always had at least one feather in their hair and were always porrtayed is the faithful, low intelligence side kicks. We've come a long way...seen the new Lone Ranger flick with Johnny Depp yet? He portrays the brains while the masked man seems to have an IQ of a cucumber
