So, I have a 'full' collection (all colors) of the original Sumo, love them, and wear them a disproportionate amount of the time. They're reliable friends in the daily rotation. I was lucky enough to be able to get one of the new limited edition ones and was traveling with it so it was my only watch for a few days and one day I noticed that the bezel is not 'flat' on the sides, instead having a slight angle to its sides. Then I noticed that the case wrapped up around the bezel (causing the bezel to be partially inset), and it to is not perfectly square in it's approach to this, and that there was a neat, almost serpentine appearance to the part wrapping 1/2 way up the bezel (starting at 7 o'clock, peaking in height at 9 o'clock, returning to about 11 o'clock, similar on crown side of watch as well). Anyway, I thought to myself, that's weird, I never noticed this on the old Sumo's, must just be the LE, although I'd thought the cases were the same. Lo and behold, I get home, and yes, the cases are the same. How had I never seen this detail? Pictures from above, or the side, seem to miss this. Anyway, here's what I'm talking about. Makes me feel I need to revisit all my watches and see what other neat curves and elements I've been missing?

I think this design acts as a partial shroud so it prevents the bezel from being turned unintentionally.

I was never fan of the Sumo. Part of the reason was the price difference over the basis SKX divers. I got one in a trade (not really wanting it at the time) and I realized what I had been missing all of those years. The reason I got rid of it was 1. I wanted the cash rather than the trade to begin with and 2. It started to hog all of the wrist time from my other watches hence the reason why I always get rid of the watches I actually wear

I had a sumo for a while. I really liked that bezel, as well as the nice curvy cushion- among other things. I ended up flipping it, but may revisit in the future.
Good observation on the slant. The sumo has quite a unique design.

Pretty watch, but too damned big. That is why I sold mine. But I did notice the bezel thing.
Seems Seiko is making all of it's new mid-level divers for guys with 9" wrists nowadays.
The Sumo and the new Kinetic SUN-series are good examples of this.

The case and kinky bezel were the attraction for me, how did you miss it?
I do agree it is a bit large but I persevere with it and at least I find it comfortable. I do wish Seiko would make the lug to lug dims shorter, unfortunately this applies to the Stargate and Shogun too.

I think I missed it because all the pics are straight on (cdgod's as an example) and once I got it, I've always slapped it on, and mainly admired it for the dial and awesome curvature of the back that makes it fit my smaller wrist so well despite being a larger (as noted) watch. Maybe I'm just inattentive? I'm sure my wife wouldn't agree with that, right honey? Honey? hello............? Dammit!

As far as the Sumo, I've never noticed that either, though I do like it.

To the OP - Funny you never saw that. I don't own any Sumo as of the moment (blame the whole 'camel toe' thing), but it was actually one of the design elements that brought my attention to it. Now that the LE has come out I'm really thinking of getting one. That case and bezel design is quite unique and very interesting. I would have actually pulled the trigger on a new SBDC027 but I'm currently pre-occupied with 2 mods (a 6309 and 007). Maybe after these projects I'll scratch the itch! Here's another shot (from Worn & Wound) -

Huh, I have never owned a Sumo (stupid bezel font, IMO), but I have seen a zillion pictures and never noticed that. Pretty cool 3-6, thanks for pointing it out! Especially since I should be getting my SBDC027 early next week! I think the watch will be larger than I prefer, but I want to check out the MM-like bezel. Plus I love my Sporks, so what do I mean "too large"?? - Thomas
