With the recent drop in prices, on preowned MM300's...it got me thinking.
I'm typically pretty frugal, when it comes to making purchases. I try to always buy, for less than current market value (don't we all). But sometimes, there is that piece you've been looking for, and even though it's priced a bit high, you have to have it.
I know market value does fluctuate, with the rise and fall of the almighty dollar, but not drastically. Price of new, will definitely dictate the price of preowned. So my question is this.....How many watches in your collection, now have negative equity?

What's the price dropped to? I never cared to look for a MM, as watches above ~500 euros are out of my price range (I wouldn't want to wear such a costly piece for fear of damaging it...).
Still >1000 Euro, I guess?

Still >1000 Euro, I guess? 2 - 3 years ago, I purchased mine, which was basically new, for $1,950. I see them on the secondary market now, for anywhere between $1,500 - $1,700.

I try to only buy watches when I find a good opportunity, but I definitely reached for a few new/NOS items. Overall I think I'd about break even in a collection-wide selloff, but I'd take a loss on these: - GS Snowflake underwater ~35%
- Seiko Astron Stratosphere at ~25%
- Zenith Striking 10ths LE at ~20%
- Omega Speedmaster at ~20%
- Formerly NOS Blue Ti Samurai at ~15%
- Dornbluth&Sohn 99.1 at ~10%

This question makes me think of the stock market and its movements up or down over time. As long as you don't sell on the down side, the only real loss is on paper.

Most of my watches are 60s and 70s vintage, with an emphasis on divers and chronographs. Given that most were purchased 8-12 years ago, I am sitting pretty.

Hi.Most of mine were added years ago so my position is good plus current low Aussie dollar makes it a good time to sell. Any drop in values will only affect a collector if he has to sell.
I am very very wary of buying anything much below market value as its the best way of ending up with rubbish.
Cheers Phil
