It seemed a simple exercise to buy a new watch to replace a hard worked Oris Diver which had seen better days but the retail outlets did not inspire so I put in a google search. That was 2 months ago and I now have 14 watches ranging from a 1960 Omega Seamaster to a lime green dialled Orient (which for all I know is built from Tractor spares).I have dipped my toe in the JDM market with an Alpinist, had a bid via the internet in a live auction (failed--- more like lost my nerve !) and lost countless hours to research and watch envy.
To limit this addiction (I think calling it what it is helps me come to terms with the reducing bank balance and the pity I receive from family and friends) I have decided to focus on Seiko 6138/6139 and that's when it gets really insane. I have entered a different space with so much work required to try and sift the dubious offerings from the Bay into items I should bid on.You then identify a suitable target ,watch it for 6 days rise from £40 to £49 and on the 7th day with 2 minutes to go you are poised and ready to go and before you press bid the price takes off like Pogues Rocket into the stratosphere.I blame all of you for this and thought if I cannot beat you I might as well converse with you to garner the considerable knowledge the forum provides.I have to confess that I have flirted with other forums (but nothing serious) before joining and this is my first ever post of any kind on any forum. Please be kind to a novice who will no doubt ask questions that will raise many an eyebrow among the more seasoned members

An addiction is exactly what it is ! Feel free to ask all the questions you like, but be prepared for the answers to send you spiralling in to confusion (and possibly debt ) as they will only fuel the addiction

Hi Popeye, Welcome to the forum. I am also newly bitten by the 6139 bug and recently joined the forum. And I have found that there are friendly members here who are willing to share their knowledge. I'm sure you'll have a good time here. Cheers, Ronald

Welcome.....I too share your joy and pain,as my bank account has dwindled and along with the increase of net time looking and researching. I am about to shift the funds over temporarily to summertime activities [seems like only 4-5 months over summer here] which get me outside and exercising more with the kids. Welcome and enjoy! PS: Don't have too many libations and bid on evilbay!!

Welcome, the 70s chronographs are a good place to start with. Don't miss the 7016/7018s,though. Oh, and one more diver could not hurt, can it? Try a 6309-7040 on your wrist, just once...
