It seems to me, that decent, all original 6309-704x's are getting harder to find. It wasn't long ago, when you'd see them for sale regularly on the forums. Do you find this to be the case, or am I just oblivious?

I have been after one for a long long while now, I've done the ebay thing, but loathed to buy as I really don't know what i'm looking at originality wise, and I really don't want to get burned. TBH, it's my 'Holy Grail' watch, I would dearly love a 6309 7040, only I can't find one that doesn't have aftermarket this and after market that. So, I guess it will remain my grail watch for the foreseeable future As it needs to be as original as possible, I guess people who have them are holding on too them as they increase in value.

I'm with you Tim. Almost everything out there is either badly cobbled together, has way too much wabi, of is full of AM parts.

Hang in there, they can still be had. There are some helpful threads here, that give pointers on spotting AM dial & hands, etc. I'm with you Tim. Almost everything out there is either badly cobbled together, has way too much wabi, of is full of AM parts. I guess people are just hoarding them these days, I know I'm a bit guilty of that myself...can't get enough.

I think most decent vintage pieces are becoming a bit more scarce these days. I have two 6309-7049s and am hoping for one more to complete a trilogy - I have a Suwa and Hong Kong dial, so now just need a Singapore dial.
But I have seen a number of pretty good 6309-704xs pop up on the bay the past couple of months, just not as often as a couple of years ago. Would have bought one if I hadn't made other purchases.

Prices for 6309-704X's are going up, too. Properly serviced, all original, excellent condition ones go quickly for $400-$500 from reputable sellers.

The summer time, in my opinion, is not a good time to be buying. I am sticking by my opinion that the best time to buy is between November and March, the holiday time.
Sellers are motivated to get some money together for presents, then, after Christmas, are motivated to sell to pay off purchases.
However, more direct to the OP, yes indeed, it does seem as if good, original 6309-704x watches are few and far between right now.
Save up, and be ready to pounce come Halloween/Thanksgiving time.

I scored my Omega Dynamic in late January (a few years ago) for a steal (until it cost me as much as I paid for the watch to get it serviced and some custom tweeks I requested including the balance upgraded to COSC grade). You have to be at the right place at the right time and have funds set aside or be willing to bet against the house and go all in when the watch you really want comes up to score it. Almost all of the watches that I had always wanted and had actively hunted on a daily basis for 2-3 years straight until I finally gave up on I have come across randomly one day out of the blue on Ebay. I am sure others had been offered in between that I missed but maybe it is fate or destiny or prophecy that they popped up that day I thought to myself "I wonder if what I always wanted happens to be for sale today" Hell I even bought my first house in MS off of Ebay and it was listed 2 days before I had already planned on going down there to scout out houses nowhere near where it was. If that isn't fate / destiny / devine intervention / whatever you smoke or drink talkiong to you I don't know what is. Check out the "Images from Past Auctions"® threads to see what puppy mill 6309's sell for vs. true daily worn survivors vs barn finds sell for.

I have been noticing this for awhile. Good 6309s used to be hanging off of Ebay like crabapples, but not anymore.
Really nice ones are much fewer and farther between nowadays.

This thread makes me REALLY glad I got mine when I did and from who I did. Got mine a few years ago from Spencer and now, based on this I wouldn't even consider getting rid of it!

I bought two from Mike Mounce, and Spencer did movement services on both, and a Bubble Boy crystal on one. I don't plan to let either go.

I also bought two, but one was stolen on it's way to me... At least I found another one that was also from my birth year and in spectacular shape.
